2019 To WOW Us All

At the end of the year most of us come into a reflective mood, as reflective as a beGloss-lubed latex catsuit. Looking to 2019, one can’t help but consider 2018, and in the mix and match-up of what passed in a seeming blur of 12 months, Dawnamatrix has enjoyed another fantastic year. We spread our …

Ashanti Breaks Paper

Although they have yet to have any of their celebs wear any real latex wardrobe in their effort to ‘Break the Internet,’ this month Paper Magazine is featuring Ashanti in some stunning couture. In the “Ashanti Comes Full Circle” piece, writer Michael Love Michael with photographer Alexei Hay, give the world an updated look (and …

Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Ezra Miller: Best Dressed?

Not that we’d even dare try to determine who was the best dressed in latex couture this year, Fashionitsa.com has posted their Best Dressed Celebrities of 2018 list. To be sure, it is as much what designer made the grade as it is what celebrity was most popular, but what’s fun about the listed is …

You know about the WorldofWearable Art Event, having been with us as wehave entered and won for our various latex outfits in the past two years. Andyou don’t have to be a fashionista to have heard about and see some picturesand video of the various Fashion Weeks that happen across the world. And you don’t …

Teasing Game of Thrones Season 8

In the teaser, titled “Dragonstone” (see here) rising music accompanies a milky-white smoke that quickly turns all it covers to ice. The ice, creeping across a wooden surface that fans of the show will recognize as the carved wooden map of Westeros, meets flames spreading across the map’s surface coming from the other direction. The elements meet over Daenerys Targaryen’s guide, and then the title for the series rises, in this under the 40-second clip.

Lady Ethereal @ The National WOW Museum & Nelson Classic Car Collection

Winning for our latex couture two years in a row at WOW was such a thrill for us (as we told you here). But the World of WearableArt Exhibition is like the proverbial gift that keeps on giving. We just received word, that one of our winning outfits is being exhibited at the National WOW Museum & Nelson Classic Car Collection in Nelson.

Let Fetish Map London Be Your Guide

As the full breadth of human sexuality is brought further into the light, stigmas for alternate lifestyles are lessened, and we all become just that closer to one another in our evolution and tolerance, something like Fetish Map London serves as just another reminder of how far we have come, and what’s out there if we care to look.

Grimes returns (wearing latex) in “We Appreciate Power”

Over the past year Grimes announced across Instagram that she wasn’t going to be releasing any new music “anytime soon,” as she saw it, “the music industry is trash.” She did though collaborate during the year with Janelle Monáe, Poppy and Loona. And of course, her relationship with Tesla’s top man did not go unnoticed. Such public scrutiny does not always the best art make, but Grimes is showing how she’s beating back the odds on staid celebrity with “We Appreciate Power.”

Amber Heard Swims Her Way Into Our Haute Couture Hearts

While the costume design in this latest comic book movie offering will surely stun fans, cosplayers, and simple moviegoers all, Heard has been truly stepping up her red carpet appearances (although the carpet at London Leicester Square premier was an ocean blue). Adding a shower cap to her latest ensemble certainly sets the bar high for alternatives to what our stars dare wear.

Riding Over Controversy With Jennifer Lawrence and Dior

In the case of this new Dior campaign though whether this was conscious culture robbing (one tends to doubt) or Lawrence and Dior fall into the category of actual appropriation, it comes as no surprise, at the very least, that the fashion designer would use Jennifer Lawrence. She has been the face of the brand now for six years.

Wonderful Pictures & Words From 2018 FashioNXT

We just received a blog link and some wonderful pictures about 2018 FashioNXT, where we showed a bunch of our latex wardrobe down the show’s runway during the Friday night of the event. Fashion blogger, Remanda Xiang, on her STYLE RIGHT blog provides copy of the entire show (with such complimentary comments about us), while the pictures provided by photographer Bassel Hamieh perfectly capture our models.

Who Wore What: The 2018 People’s Choice Awards, The Country Music Awards and The 19th Annual Latin Grammy Awards

The last event of the week, the Latin Grammy’s, saw stars reveal the most risqué, alternative and downright sexiest fashions of all three events. Ana de la Reguera stepped high and proud in her billowing magenta top and little black hot pants. Halsey wore that nude dress style; hers draped with light color beads. Her close-cropped hair and the body-hugging floor length gown made her look like a 20’s flapper.

Stan Lee: Excelsior!

Modern popular literature, superhero haute couture and all of us who love our flights of fantastic fancy owe a debt to Stan Lee that can only be paid by celebrating the man for as long as we can

Angel Tears, Shawn Mendes and a $1 Million Bra

Also on hand were sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid (who did not walk last year) Lima, Elsa Hosk, Candice Swanepoel, Jasmine Tookes and many others. The lingerie and outfits the ladies modeled ranged from Gigi in floral tights, bra, shoes and a parachute-like floral train. In fact, quite often the models wore float-y, in some cases, even inflatable ‘banners,’ as much as wings this night.

Nicki Minaj Does It Again…To Billboard

We offer our most heart-felt congratulations of such an amazing accomplishment from one of our most stunning original current pop stars, Nicki Minaj. A star who continues to challenge her musical peers as much the fashion world. A world we are proud to say we are part of.

Halloween Costume Marvel: Heidi Klum As Princess Fiona

It’s as hard to get past Halloween without some latex accessory or a carved pumpkin, as it is not mentioning what Heidi Klum wore. The supermodel’s annual Halloween party is infamous for celebrities coming out dressed in all their finest Halloween frockery. But it’s most famous for Klum revealing her yearly pulling-out-all-the-stops over-the-top amazing costume concoction.

What You-Know-Who Is Wearing For Halloween 2018

Beyoncé revealed herself across Instagram recreating Tony Braxton’s cover for Braxton’s first official single “Another Sad Love Song.” Dressed in white tee, short black wig, Beyoncé made the perfect “Phoni” Braxton, as she titled the picture. Having just shown up at the Twisted Tales Unicef event in London, Rita Orr made quite a bit of buzz in a leggy blac

Dawnamatrix & Pitbull At The 2018 Latin American Music Awards

We really are thrilled anytime we get to work in the pop world. Dressing Beyoncé’s dancers for the VMA’s, Katy Perry for a video, Nicki Minaj and now Pitbull, really we couldn’t be more honored. This is just another example of what all of us fashionistas and latex fans have known for so long; that what we love to wear looks good just about any place.

Halloween Trending 2018

The time is nigh for latex leggings, rubber masks and all sorts of scary (and sexy) accessories. Every year at this time a full range of super hero costumes make an appearance, as do naughty nurses, bare-chested cavemen and the ubiquitous ghost, goblin and zombie. Then too we shall see the parade of cartoon fluffy cartoon coverings and bespoke Halloween creations.

Dawnamatrix Designs Does FashionNXT

At the FashioNXT show in Portland recently, we got to reveal our “The New Flesh,” collection (see the pieces here). This show was of a more traditional, classic haute couture setting, and as with everyplace else we have been, we found our time in Portland, glorious.

Dawnamatrix Does New York Comic Con 2018-Part 2

Walking away from our two days spent ‘doing’ NYCC 2018 we were lovingly exhausted with all we saw and the many people we met. It was a great time and we hope to attend last year, either on the east coast or west. Cosplay, comics, anime and fantasy are alive and well, and we are damn happy they are.

What They Wore At The AMA’s

Taylor Swift came in a Balmain long-sleeve, high-neck reflective mini-dress with matching thigh highs boots. Tyra Banks sported a dress shirt, wide black belt (almost a cummerbund actually) and a Gucci red fringe skirt. Dua Lipa was in a classic floor-length white gown with pleaded train. And Cardi B, as we would expect, was dressed in an eye-catching ensemble. She wore a matching floral hat and slit dress with spaghetti straps. Hers was certainly one of the more colorful wardrobe choices of the evening

Dawnamatrix Does New York Comic Con 2018-PART 1

Latex wardrobe accessories, steampunk hats, wild wigs and spandex, spandex, spandex; welcome to Comic Con NYC 2018. Supposedly this east coast version of the famous anime/science fiction/fantasy/cosplay/comic convention sees even a bigger attendance than the original San Diego version. That accounting might very well be true with all we saw walk below Aquaman’s banner over the weekend.

News-Michael Kors buys Versace; FashioNXT This Weekend

he source we have said mostly it was an “Oh, Wow. Ok.” that was heard among the workers, as the Michael Kors’ office buzzed along. But what actually happened in the big time world of investments and stock options, was that haute couture accessory player Michael Kors bought Versace, for $2.1 billion. Also, Michael Kors announced they were changing their name to Capri Holdings.

The U.S. At The World of WearableArt

Winning awards, for the second year in a row, for our latex couture on the global WOW stage is an honor we are having a hard time getting our heads around. Sure we are cool and hip alt. wardrobe designers but winning WOW again..man we are blown away! But as we mentioned in our last blog, to be among fourteen other U.S. designers that made the finalists at this year at World of WearableArt Awards Show, invests us of an honor all its own.

Dawnamatrix Wins At WOW…Again!

Once again latex couture is being celebrated. For the 2nd year in a row, Dawnamatrix has won prizes and placement in The WORLD OF WEARABLE ART competition, and we are beside ourselves with the honor.

Yandy and PETA: A Controversial Halloween, 2018

As we always do, we will be updating on the new costumes, for 2018. But for now, there has already come a little controversy to what’s being presented in costume wear, one not a costume anyone will be wearing, the other, one somebody could if it hadn’t been already pulled.

Pocket Bridal

When it comes to latex wardrobe, there is bespoke…and then there are BESPOKE. Mostly, when we take a specific request—beyond creating an outfit completely original for a client—we see requests for specific alternations in size, and requests for color. And when it comes to creating wedding gowns we have accommodated some very personal specifications, many a bride want special specifications for their special day.

Interview Magazine Redux

As Warhol managed with his art, his magazine skirted the trendy as much as the serious, from politics to visual art to film to literature. And despite some financial troubles of late—some seemingly still not completely resolved—the paper magazine beloved by so many is relaunching with a September issue.

Kylie In Latex…Again

Last week Kylie Jenner stepped out in West Hollywood in a skin tight latex dress. The tightness of the ensemble was most noted—reporter Lauren Adhav in a Cosmopolitan piece claims it was the tightest latex dress she has ever seen—but as we all know, just about squeezing into our alternate wardrobe pieces is so the point, and such the tactile delight, of wearing what we wear.

Style, Cool, And A Fair Amount Of Leather: The Life & Times Of The Original Bandit, Burt Reynolds

Burt Reynolds’ unprecedented string of hit movies in the late 70’s and early 80’s—Smokey and the Bandit, The End, The Cannonball Run, Sharky’s Machine, to name a few—truly made him a superstar. In the early 90’s Reynolds rejuvenated his career by starring in CBS’s sitcom Evening Shade (for which he won his Emmy) and further enjoyed his ‘comeback’ starring as porn director “Jack Horner” in 1997’s Boogie Nights (for which he won a Golden Globe and was nominated or an Oscar).

“Spacesuits and slippers, Oh My!”

Though neither are made of latex, two pieces of iconic couture made the news early this week, both ‘from out of this world’: Neil Armstrong’s spacesuit and a pair of ruby red slippers from the film, The Wizard Of Oz.

Lady Gaga Is A Star

The Lady certainly wowed the crowd at The Venice Film Festival this week with what she wore, coming in to promote her new film (starring her and Bradley Cooper, who also directed). Sailing into the sinking Italian city on a boat, Gaga was wearing a Jonathan Simkhai bustier LBD dress, an equally black stiletto dangling off the side of the boat she arrived in.
