Marquis Magazine…Alive And Well With C. Michael Martell

A standard bearer for alternative couture-to say the least-the lush glossy Marquis Magazine was beloved by all who ever strapped into a corset or wore a latex mask. Begun by Czernich in 1994 after losing the right to his original magazine “O”’s name, what was started as a compliment ‘spin-off’ to Skin Two became a sensation all its own. Two years after Marquis began Czernich began Heavy Rubber (not a magazine about tires, to be sure!) he also continued to publish stand-alone photographic books and create and sell clothing.

Playing and Partying At 2015 Montreal Fetish Weekend: LATEXTACY SIN-A-MATIC BALL

There are plenty of men and women who attend Montreal Fetish Weekend to see, wear and enjoy wonderful latex clothing (which we can promise you will be on hand), but there is so much beyond the fantasy fashions that occur during the weekend. One such occurrence is the LATEXTACY SIN-A-MATIC BALL happening on Saturday September 5th.

This grand costumed affair features Hollywood “Red Carpet” glamour in a fetish fantasy theme. And though latex fashion is featured, LATEXTACY-like all of the MFW-is full of love for anything partiers wish to wear, from leather, to pvc, lingerie and any and all kinds of Xdressing.

Schön! Magazine features Dawnamatrix with Balenciaga and Robert Rodriguez

Published in a twice yearly run of 40,000 copies and distributed in 13 countries Schön! boasts “Legendary faces, iconic photographers, top celebrities, high fashion, art and illustration that make our creative world so exceptional.” And of course right along with the print magazine there is the high-end digital form of the magazine. We are thrilled to be aboard this time, in such wonderful company of world class designers, featured in such a stunning shoot.

Montreal Fetish Weekend: Behind The Scenes Preparations

Surely when it comes to our latex clothing shoots, runway appearances, new wardrobe announcements even, team Dawnamatrix is working so hard we don’t truly think about, let alone stand back to consider the ‘behind-the-scenes.’ Our models, photographers, hair and make-up people, promoters all simply work in and around a hubbub of activity, but on taking …

Where The Hoodies Are

One could easily opine that latex clothing, cyber sleuthing and hoodie-wearing anti-heroes are all the rage presently. During the recent Television Critics Association press tour, where critics and television program sellers both gather in a Beverly Hills hotel to consider what is happening across networks, lots was made over hacker “Elliot Anderson” of USA’s new TV series Mr. Robot, while the highly anticipated, if not wholly endorsed 4th Lisebeth Salander novel The Girl in the Spider’s Web is set to be released next month, starring Stieg Larsson’s tatted and pierced female super hacker.

Venus, LeBron, Jordan, Beckham and Mostly This Week Serena: Athletes Make The Designer Grade

And speaking of a stellar tennis star with the name Williams, Venus Williams (Serena’s sister if you didn’t know!) has her own “EleVen” fashion line. Started by Venus’ collection features a goodly amount and seems to focus most on work-out clothing and accessories as well as some casual clothing.

And as mentioned there is Michael Jordan’s “Air Jordan” line begun as sneaker collection with Nike back in the mid 80’s, now grown to an accessories and clothing behemoth that includes hats and even basketballs.

Who’s Who For Team Dawnamatrix @ Montreal Fetish Weekend 2015

As we have every year we have attended, we just know a fantastically lavish loving time awaits us at this year’s Montreal Fetish Weekend. You simply cannot get all these wild latex aficionados in such a great city for a weekend and to have a blast! With the team above behind us, the sky is the limit to what Dawnamatrix will achieve his year in showing our wares, in networking…but mostly in having fun with all our friends and all the talented people who make this all possible for us.

Happening Happenings For The Alternate Wardrobe Lover

A little forward in time (October actually) will see both the one day Erotic Ball 2015 and the London Fetish Weekend. The LFW happens on the first weekend of the month (starting on Thursday Oct 1st actuallyt) and includes the “Camden Crunch,” the first popular social gathering of the weekend, Friday’s Torture Garden’s “Electrowerkz” party at the Slimelight club, Saturday’s London Alternative Market during the day (shopping and demos) and that night’s Club river party aboard the Dutch Master Boat, then Sunday’s Kinky ‘Kodak Moments’ Bus Tour, a Sunday afternoon shop-a-thon and the last party of the weekend

Zoolander 2

It’s not every day the fashion world gets such a comedic intentioned send-up, but it very much did in the 2001 comedy classic Zoolander…and will again when Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson reprise their model adversary roles in “Zoolander 2.” The film’s teaser trailer hit this week-see here-and it is pretty much a hoot…as we all assumed it would be. Ben Stiller’s pucker and that voice he adopts for the character alone make the trailer hilarious.

Dawnamatrix @ The 2015 Montreal Fetish Weekend

There is a 6 pm start to STREET TERRACE DINING at participating restaurants. A great way for us all to get out and about…there are just so many places to choose from, so many people to see, and just too much yummy food to sample. The 7 pm RED CARPET STREET FASHION SHOW. Starting at les Garcons Sculpteurs, 1335 Sainte-Catherine St. East, this moveable show moves crawls its way westward covering a series of terrasses; a not-to-be-missed happening! At 8 pm comes INTERVIEWS, PHOTOS AND FUN on the RED CARPET. Everybody is a star at the Montreal Fashion Weekend…and we all love showing off so much, really. And at 9 pm we are back at les Garcons Sculpteurs, for a PRE-PARTY that evolves into the remainder of what always proves to be a great night.

Models Making Mainstream Movie Moves

Take for instance the mainstreaming of model Cara Delevingne. The British lady is accumulating accolades presently in the big summer ‘teen’ blockbuster Paper Towns. Delevingne has made steps into the ‘mainstream’ acting world in both Face of an Angel and Anna Karenina, but the twenty two year old has slipped into public conscious now with her recent turn in Paper Towns and is getting great reviews.

Taylor Swift Takes Another Step To Make Our Latex Couture Mainstream

This year’s VMA’s certainly won’t be the first time that latex clothing has played a part in the show’s proceedings. Dawnamatrix was involved in last year’s Video Music Awards (see here) and proud of it. But this year does mark the first time that world-renown kinky toy store “The Stockroom” lent a hand in ‘dressing’ a nominated video from a major pop star (in this case Taylor Swift). In Swift’s “Bad Blood” latex couture as well as a goodly amount of guns and slowmo female derring-do is widely featured; Swift, Selena Gomez and a slew of current lady stars romp through the clip as secret agent/bad ass ‘chicks’ getting revenge (see the video here.)

One can certainly understand why the “Bad Blood” video has received nine video award nominations, including “Video Of The Year”.

Miami Swim Week, the New Wonder Woman Is a Wonder While Target Is Not and the Passing of Elio Fiorucci

We are never really free of our super heroes, even when summer movie-going is winding down. Next year the first modern movie version of Wonder Woman will be seen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The new lady to take charge of The Lasso Of Truth and those cool bullet repelling braclets, Gal Gadot is showing off lots of herself in the current issue of Interview Magazine. In just bra, underwear and stockings the new W.W. lounges quite ‘wonderfully’ in a hammock. And as you can expect there are as many people who appreciate the long-limb ex-Miss Israel’s form, as those who think she is showing too much of herself.

Caitlyn Jenner, ESPYS and that damn sexy Atelier Versace gown

Certainly her appearance at the ESPY”s, the film clip pre-amble it showing Bruce’s Olympic glories, and the commercial for Jenner’s E! show I AM Cait shown post it gives muscle to the critics who claim this was all done for publicity. Still one can’t help be stirred by a speech where C.J. simply whittled down her point to: “…a very simple idea: accepting people for who they are. Accepting people’s differences.”

American Horror Story and Fishnets on a Plane: Lady Gaga Is At Us Again

As we can all expect, this is not all of Gaga will be seeing. Not only is the pop star presently entertaining sold out crowds (with Tony Bennett no less) on her “Cheek to Cheek” tour, supporting the album with Bennett of the same name, but we she’ll be seen come October in the 5th season installment of the American Horror Story series. Announced back in February, but certainly news again since Comic-Con, the “Little Monsters” creator will be joining the monsters of the popular show in “American Horror Story: Hotel and Scream Queens.” Gaga’s character will play a nasty lady somehow involved with fashion (see the teaser trailer here).

Comic-Con 2015: Latex, Ben Affleck and a Stormtropper Walking The California Coast For Charity

There was also a heart-warming costume story that broke the beginning of the week of a Minnesota Man walking over 600 miles to attend Comic-Con 2015, dressed as a Stormtrooper. Kevin Doyle and his wife Eileen were fans of Star Wars and took to dressing-up together in costumes from the film (they actually met because they were both members the movie franchise’s costume organization, the 501st legion. https://www.501st.com/) From The Star Wars museum in Petaluma, Doyle began walking the California coast to honor his wife who died of pancreatic cancer in 2012. The near 60 year old man is hoping the trek will get him back to his photographing and illustrating and raise money for a children’s charity he launched in Eileen’s name,

A Latex Harness Is All A Girl (or Guy) Needs

Here David Rocha of Shogun Photography in Death Valley catches the sultry Elegy Ellem, a Swedish alternative model known for her arresting body art, voluptuous figure, and classic beauty. Elegy is modeling the Dawnamatrix Ring Harness a sexy couture accessory we find popular with women for wear either as is-as Elegy shows us-or layered under any number of other Dawnamatrix wardrobe pieces.

All That Twitters Is Not Always Gold…at Hashtag askEL James

It would be hard to argue the success of E.L. James’ trilogy. Not only did the subject matter interest those of us of a more ‘liberal’ dress-up sensibility (one could entertain some kinky fantasies when wearing something like our https://dawnamatrix.com/shop/bottoms/micro-ruffle-skirt-2/) but the adventures of Anastasia and Mr. Grey took the world by storm. With the release of her new novel Grey, a book that tells the Fifty Shades story from Christian Grey’s point of view rather than that of Anastasia Steele, E.L. James sat for a national Twitter exchange Monday at https://twitter.com/hashtag/askeljames. Granted the nature of Twitter’s shorthand volleys can lead to some spirited and humorous exchanges, but a good percentage of the folks who lobbed questions at E.L. James were a bit snarky to say the least. Twitter followers as much hoped the author would soon get writer’s block, took stabs at the shallow nature of The Fifty Shade characters (one writer compared Anastasia to a blow up doll) and quipped whether E.L. James suddenly wished Twitter came with a ‘safe word’ after all the attacks.

The First Ever Alternative Fashion Fest

Latex clothing will be the least of the ‘alternates’ on display at the very first Alternative Fashion Fest in Liverpool tonight. The event, organized by model, creative director and mom Jane Bellis will hopefully turn out to be a celebration of “many sub-cultures which are usually completely ignored and made to feel inadequate,” Bellis told the UK’s Echo newspaper. Opening with Lynsey Hughes’ fire eating, featuring globally recognized alt. models Kitty Von Krypt and Cherri Pi, the event that was four years in the making, is happening in Liverpool at Circo’s bar down at the Britannia Pavilion Albert Dock this very night. This ‘Fashion Show with a Difference’ boasts alternative couture and heavy tune-age with cocktails and “nibble platters” for those who will stay the whole night.

Careful With Your Latex…and other clothing as well

In other fashion mishap related news, Lululemon is recalling over three hundred thousand of their women’s tops. It seems the draw cords of the tops-elastic cords with metal or plastic hard ends-have injured enough wearers’ faces and eyes, or became caught on something they have passed…and then snapped back, to cause the recall.

Two years ago Lululemon Athletica Inc. had to recall yoga pants after complaints that the material used in their construction was either too sheer or ‘pilling” and/or splitting at the seams.

Burlesque Fashion introduces more European fans to Dawnamatrix

With our friends/co-workers Yummy Gummy having recently won the European Fetish Award for Best Idea/Start-Up in Berlin at the German Fetish Ball we can say with certainty that Germany knows its latex clothing. So you can bet we were honored to have an entire article written about the Dawnamatrix brand on the German-based Burlesque Fashion site: https://www.burlesque-fashion.com/2015/latex-creations-of-dawnamatrix-overcome-time-and-space/.

The shiny latex chicken or textured latex egg…which comes first, and who cares?

With the rise in popularity of cable series like Game Of Thrones, the consistent startling and tireless work of cosplayers who just love to be in the spotlight, and fashionistas as much asking for, as responding to uniquely rendered latex couture, it’s a heady thing sometimes considering: is it the latex clad chicken or the shiny textured latex egg that comes first in what we do? Time and again we’re as much riding a culture zeitgeist as we are tickling an idea that pops forth from our imagination and acumen just before it seems to play large across the media landscape.

The End Of Marquis Magazine

Certainly, we see latex clothing pushing ever stronger into the mainstream these days. Phenomena like Fifty Shades Of Grey or even the latest outfit Kendall Jenner might be wearing gives alternate concerns/and couture ever greater attention…and as San Diego Comic-Con grows ever closer the world will be yet again get some good eye-candy view of hard working cosplayers (and we have just the jacket for it https://dawnamatrix.com/shop/steampunk/gunslinger-jacket-2/). But for the most part ours is still a small community of folks, albeit a global one to be sure, who enjoy wearing latex clothing and attending events to show off and play. When one of our own closes shop, as Germany’s Marquis Magazine is, we all feel the repercussions.

Yummy Gummy Latex gives Dawnamatrix a ‘shout out’ in The Fetishistas.com

There wouldn’t be much good in designing and making latex clothing…without the latex to make it with. It is very important that the high-grade materials we come to use match our exacting standards; our customers have come to expect nothing less from Dawnamatrix Designs. And seeing that often we require specific textures and colors that won’t ever run or fade, we are even more discerning in our needs. One of these latex suppliers who not only meet but exceed or exacting standards time and again, Yummy Gummy Latex, is profiled in The Fetishistas.com this week and they even managed to give us a glowing ‘shout out.’

It Ain’t Got That Latex Swing, Without Wonderful Models Doing Their Thing

Modes Anne Ashe (she is the brunette) and Meadow Bosworth (blonde) had their hair and makeup done by Jessie Campbell, for a shoot by the wonderful Paul Allan. Anne is modeling our Butterfly Mermaid Gown https://dawnamatrix.com/shop/dresses/butterfly-mermaid-gown/ Meadow one of our classic underwire bras and dragon fin collar. https://dawnamatrix.com/shop/classics/underwire-bra-2/ https://dawnamatrix.com/shop/accessories-m/dragon-fin-collar-2/

The Kentucky Derby and Latex? Maybe Not This Year.

Oh-so-distinctive couture has been a feature of derby day since its inception in 1875. Colonel M. Lewis Clark, Jr. envisioned the day at Churchill Downs as a grand event more akin to a European car racing Grand Prix then just any old horse race. As much as been made of triple crown winning horses (this year American Pharaoh is being slated to win the Belmont Stakes and becoming a Triple Crown winner) as the celebs who attend, to all the colorful dresses and of course the hats. (Here is Nordstrom’s Kentucky Derby Dresses page & J.C. Penny’s hat page.)

Bruce Is Out, Caitlyn Jenner Is “In”

It’s official. Once you land an Annie Leibovitz Vanity Fair cover, you might as well know you have as much made your high couture stripes as you are going to be seen throughout the mainstream news. As had been indicated last week Leibovitz shot the first ever Bruce Jenner post transformation shots for an upcoming summer issue of Vanity Fair. The picture of that cover, a stunner, has been released today across the blog’o world, with the issue to appear on newsstands June 9th.

What ISN’T He Wearing; Robin, The Boy Wonder, Is Truly A Wonder In “Grayson”

The re-imagining of a character that ranked #1 in Comic Alliance’s “The 50 Sexiest Male Characters” pole is how often Mr. Grayson is quite James Bond-ian in nature. Gone is the good teen, “Holy” this and that’s for this character who was originally conceived as a younger (and more brightly costumed) counter to the considerably darker Dark Knight. But in “Grayson” the bright costume is replaced-or at least only half used lots of the time-as we see Robin swinging his rather impressive torso (remember he comes from a family of high wire circus performers) this way and that. Spanish based artist Janín actually uses 3D software and human models to aid his rendering fluid physicality needed for this update that is decidedly so sexy.

Celebrating Photographer Mary Ellen Mark

Moving from her home state of Pennsylvania to NYC in the mid 60’s, Mark chronicled lots of the city’s social ills in the last half of the decade and beyond. As much a photographer as documentarian filmmaker, with her husband director Martin Bell she created the much celebrated (and Academy Award nominated) film Streetwise, a movie that chronicled three decades of a crack-addicted prostitute and was indicative of those ‘tougher’ subjects Mark was interested in (Streetwise actually began as photographic expose Mark was commissioned to shoot for Life magazine.)

Cannes 2015 Fashion

So Cannes…you got to go this year, right? Don’t feel bad, we didn’t jet over with Russell Crowe this year either (he so never asks team Dawnamatrix to accompany him anywhere, the nerve of some Aussies!) For those of us who didn’t make the movie event of the year, or for some who did, the fashions folks wore across red carpets, coming on and off of boats, and sailing through parties like the AIDS Gala at the the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc have been a wonder to behold. One hopes for a big latex plugsuit making an appearance some year, but alas we can content ourselves with some great styles, and the stylish celebs who wore them.

Dawnamatrix Designs & Von Gutenberg Issue #9…A Perfect Fit

There is Ella Kross from Tel-Aviv wearing our Lace Gown, Crissy Daniels shows-off in our Pinstripe Infusion Minidress as well as modeling one of our unique accessories, in this case our Dragon Fin Collar. The Richard, the only featured male model this time around in the magazine (a horror movie/alt.model/rock and roll scene-ster Canadian native) who exemplifies the move-theme of this Von Gutenberg issue, and actually models for us in our online catalogu, shows-off his powerfully built bod in our Damask Vest, Men’s Galaxy Zip Tank, Plug Style Catsuit and Straight Leg Trousers.

In The End…It’s All About The Gown!

Here are some photographs of model Olivia Dantes wearing our Enchantment Wedding Gown. Olivia was shot by the wonderful Gina Barbara (her URL here). Gina was also responsible for Olivia’s hair and MUA for the shoot, talented lady that she is.

Dawnamatrix ‘Flutters By’ In Beau-Nu’s May 2015 “Creative” Issue.

Not only does Lorraine look perfect in our latex and are Mia’s pictures arresting (the two recently worked together here showcasing other Dawnamatrix butterfly pieces) but the setting in these shots, and the delicate posing of Lorraine instantly reminds one of those infamous Cottingley Fairie pictures (seen to the right here). Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths might have fooled quite a bit of folks back in early 20th century England (in the end it was reasoned but never conclusively proved that the cousins posed with cutout fairie pictures) including the famous Arthur Conan Doyle, but in these Beau-Nu shots there is no mistaking model and photographer working so very hard to present magic of a high order indeed!

Dawnamatrix on Fox’s GOTHAM

In the “The Anvil or the Hammer” episode, Donal Logue’s “Detective Harvey Bullock” sauntered into the very upscale, tricked-out fetish club, “Foxglove.” It was a beautiful bar/lounge with equally beautiful people and garments, and even engraved invitations. There was a man in a diaper and mask being fed a bottle, lots of leggy dames, a stage at one end, and two distinct ‘school girls’ dressed in black mid thigh, high collar dresses who happened to pogo-like walk by the detective…wearing our tube socks! It made for a spectacular long shot of our wares.

Getting’ Sexy At The 2015 Met Gala

The Gala, one of NYC’s biggest annual events, celebrated the Met’s “China: Through the Looking Glass” exhibition. The many rooms of this year’s featured collection is bigger and bolder then most of what the Met attempts, with a great grand history of the ancient culture represented in everything from high couture to Ming Vases. Having an affinity for the east as we do, with our Japanese-influenced latex kimonos and our Asian dragon dresses we certainly champion a western institution like the Met revealing the influence of another culture, one far from its American shores.

All The News That Kinda Fits: The Katy Perry Sundress Controversy, RiRi For Puma and Some Calvin and Skin From Kendall Jenner

Colorful and cute, you say (and yes, we are down with flowers adorning dresses, see here…) surely, but some folks take the flowers to be a statement of support for the Sunflower Student Movement (this is a group of students who have taken to protesting a trade deal between Taiwan and China). Katy has been sporting sunflowers in her Prismatic tour since it began and she did not comment about what she may-or may not have-meant wearing her dress and cape.
