On February 9th, 2012 we had a fabulous fashion showcase at RAW Boston at The Estate. Please enjoy the photos posted below.

Julia is an 18 year-old high school senior who was simply not content with the prom dress possibilities presented her. With her mom the Arizona young woman purchased a “used” wedding dress (for the pricey sum of $40) and then actually painted upon that dress-painted mind you!-a recreation of Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night.
There is no way we could do what we do here at Dawnamatrix without the groundbreaking work women like Bunny Yeager did for fashion, photography and the general exploration and consideration of the full rich possibilities of the nude female form as art. Fantasy-based fashion, sexy costume-ry, fetish iconography all were birthed from the pictures, attitude and daring of ladies like Bettie Page and Bunny Yeager (have you seen the Katy Perry/Madonna ‘Power of Pop’ photos in the June issue of “V” magazine…talk about being influenced!) We as much recognize a talent like Bunny Yeager as we are inspired by her, even more so impressive considering that this lady worked in a time when the types of photographs she took could be, and often were, sited as pornographic and therefore against the law.
We’ve covered Maleficent previously-don’t worry nobody is that scatterbrained round the Dawnamatrix offices that we forget what we write about-but the film’s early popularity seems to be about more than just some cool costuming and effects. Sure Angelina Jolie is a certified superstar and literally inhabits the role of the pure-hearted young lady who grows into an evil forest queen but beyond the $70 million opening it seems the world at large is getting Maleficent-fied.
Beyond the action figures that get launched on the public with a movie of this sort, Este
From Games of Thrones’ Kristian Nairn D.J.ing, to stepping in Dr. Who’s TARDIS, to passing by the likes of Rae Dawn Chong and Parker Stevenson, Team Dawnamatrix made the scene down at Boston’s Pop Culture Expo last week. Certainly a smaller gathering of the faithful and costumed then say Comic Con, still this event at …
Let’s face it; some folks have ‘it.’ An indefinable quality that draws eye and attention, captivates an intimate party gathering or stills a big audience, transcends media, place or time. Charisma, sex appeal, just an unstoppable joie de vivre, call it what you will. We’re happy that a model like Jade Vixen conveys her unique vision of life, her very sparkling essence in the work she does…and especially in the work she does for the Dawnamtrix brand.
As far as lifestyle fetish events go The Montreal Fetish Weekend ranks right up there with the very best. It’s truly a provocative mix of people and events. But what truly makes the event is how the city itself is so very welcoming to the many finely festooned fashionistas making their way in and out of Metro stops, across sunlight walkways on Ste-Catherine street, or in and out of retail shops and restaurants.
.
There are just certain instances where we connect with the right photographer, a well seasoned model or two and get to show off a piece that is truly fantasy inspired or specifically designed for event/costume wear.
At the Danger! Awesome crowdfunded maker space (“crowdfunding” something only possible through the technology of the net) we are licensed to operate the laser cutters for Dawnamatrix projects…some of the results of which you see pictured here. Danger! Awesome in Cambridge M.A.(their Facebook page here are best known for the laser engraving they created for the Ok Go video (see here.
We got lucky recently on a Steampunk-themed shoot when premier latex photographer Erik Von Gutenberg and premier alternative model Ophelia Overdose came to Diamante’s Cigar Bar (and also at a steam-powered factory that same day) to shoot pieces from our the Steampunk line.
The press was slightly shocked at a recent photocall for her new movie Maleficent when Angelina Jolie showed up at Kensington Palace in a white Atelier Versace dress. Though she was sporting Louboutin heels with a deep red seemingly dripping down the back, Brad Pitt’s lady was looking positively alluring in white. And while we are all used to Jolie looking fetching the public is not so used to the lady in white…or any light color that is.
Working as we do all with tops in the field of latex & alt photography from Erik Von Gutenberg to Antonio Angelo to Mew-Chiel (to name but a few) a recent exhibition of Guy Bourdin reminds us once again of those who were pioneers in this field of fashion alternative images.
Guy Bourdin was a well known presence at French Vogue and the art world in general for four decades. Some of his rare works were on display at the tail end of this April at Paris Photo, L.A.’s, Louise Alexander gallery.
Recently we happened over to the decidedly kinky city of Amsterdam to see our latex breathe, shift and play in a runway fashion show at Dominatrix Amsterdam. The capital city of the Netherlands hosts plenty of kinky events during the year. A goodly amount of ladies (doms) ply their trade with whip, flogger and attitude there. And we knew to truly show-off what we make to lots of folks who care about what about we make Dominatrix Amsterdam is where we just had to be.
This promotional video was just released: https://vimeo.com/m/92428136. It shows model Elena Lee modeling two of our outfits down in the warm climes of Florida’s South Beach, all of us there for the recent Von Gutenberg Ball in Miami. The video production is by Blind Beast, photographs by Antonio Angelo Photography. And Elena is wearing both the Dragon Lady Dress (see here: https://dawnamatrix.com/belted-flare-coat/ and Belted Flare Coat, (see here: https://dawnamatrix.com/belted-flare-coat/)
The Dragon Lady Dress is inspired by traditional Chinese cheongsam dresses and features a laser cut dragon. The flared coat can be (and is the way Elena is wearing it here) a daring alternative couture piece. You can use it to accessorize an outfit, or simply just as an outfit all its own. We of course support any way you want to mix and match your wardrobe.

Yes, summer is coming and with it another round of big blockbusters. There will be comedies and romances for sure, but the alternate wardrobe designer’s heart beats over the spate of superhero movies we know are coming. Captain America: The Winter Soldier has just been released, a second Spiderman movie will swing on in May …

Our main designer/CEO Dawn lived for many years in Japan and studied Kimono design and wear. To say her study and love of the culture and the unique history- rich garment seeped into her artistry would be an understatement. With this background it is no surprise that after the terrible tsunami of 2011 we held a fundraiser for Japan, managed a kimono performance at the Boston Children’s museum, continue to place our pieces in exhibits and create new Kimono designs all the time.
Reporting on another accomplishment we are infinitely proud of, we were commissioned by none other than Olympia Le-Tan for her Spring/Summer 2014 collection. Not only did our nautical theme latex outfits debut at Olympia’s Paris Fashion Week but models Amber Heard and Kiko Mizuhara were involved in showing off the line as was legendary lens men photographer Araki involved in shooting it.
Two of the most popular female pop singers of the day were recently outfitted by Dawnamatrix. Once again we stepped into the music as well as advertising world with our latex designs, this time dressing Katy Perry and Pink for Covergirl.
Clothing pop divas is nothing new for Dawnamatrix, but when it comes to outfitting women as much known for their stage persona as what they wear when on stage (and off it) the task is an especially important making sure all parties are pleased. Add into the mix that in this particular instance we were working for super brand Covergirl and the desire to make the most of our fashioning designing was a main concern.
Here at Dawnamatrix we took it upon ourselves to answer the oft heard nuptial query: “Bride’s side or Groom’s side” to an alternate extreme. Contributing latex bride and groom garments both to the “Brassy Bridal” section of Steampunk Springfield: Re-Imagining an Industrial City once again we are part of a unique museum exhibit. Designed for the modern bride and groom, utilizing Western as well as Eastern 19th century motifs (and a good smattering Steampunk influence) it’s no surprise that our latex couture fit so well into this new exhibit.
Famous latex model Mosh recently modeled our Game of Thrones themed outfit. We’re celebrating the super popular H.B.O. series (and of course Mosh’s unique style) with the new season of Game of Thrones premiering this past week. Thinking dragons, swords, limb removal and of course super sexy Peter Dinklage we aren’t ‘playing’ games here at Dawnamatrix when it comes to our love for the H.B.O. series.
Dawnamatrix is proud to collaborate with Peter Gonzales Photography of Albuquerque, NM and Licked Magazine on an increasing portfolio of gorgeous photography. Peter’s skill at photographing beautiful models wearing latex fashion is defined by the brilliance and shine his photos capture during each shoot.

We had the pleasure of meeting Tim Gunn of Project Runway at the Lucky Brand Store. Mr. Gunn was interested to see latex used in clothing design, and complimented Dawnamatrix’s tailoring. The models were thrilled to meet him as well!
