For the 3rd year-in-a-row, a Dawnamatrix latex design has won at The World of Wearable Art. The award show/startling global fashion event was held last night in New Zealand, and we are honored and humbled to receive the Overall International Design Award, International Design Award: Americas and Avant-garde Section Third. All for our Gemini: The Twins.
Time to time here on our latex couture blog/culture alt. fashion blog, we like to check in with what celebrities and well-known persons are doing. Surely, the just-passed Fashion Weeks, the Emmy Awards, regular reality-star Instagram posts give us plenty of wardrobe fodder to comment on or expose, and this past week was no exception. Even Margaret Atwood weighed in.
Although we all certainly love or latex couture, one might not miss seeing our most favorite material in all that Rihanna gives us with her new Savage x Fenty collection. At the recent New York Fashion Week, Rihanna presented a dance-led show for her fashion line at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn.
New Zealand’s The Big Idea, a self-described “home for creatives,” features a wonderful picture of our latex couture on their online hub this week, in their great big story on Andy Packer, The World Of Wearable Art Award show director.
It came down to great cosplay (latex and otherwise), attendees enjoying a deep nerd groove and al of us checking out such cool stuff from the world of fantasy and science fiction: DragonCon 2019.
One could argue that the couture celebrities wear at the various Fashion Weeks— latex accessorizing, leather or maybe even rubber outfits, ‘street’ styles, etc.—garner as much notice as the couture being seen on runway presentations. Sure, this is to be expected in our hyper-celebrity culture
Although more in the mainstream fashion world than the alternate couture one, famed photographer Peter Lindbergh, who died this week, captured all there was of clothes, the people who wore them, and even the times more than most of his contemporaries.
Taylor Swift came in a colorful and diamond jeweled Versace blazer and black Christian knee-high boots, Halsey managed to sneak in a black waist cincher in the middle of her open dress. And as we have come to expect, Queen Latifah showed-off her usual wardrobe class in a sedate yet sexy Sergio Hudson orange suit.
This time, the lady wrestlers, and their producers are part of what soon becomes a successful Las Vegas residency at the fictional “Fan-Tan Hotel and Casino.” This allowed the show’s costume designer, Beth Morgan to expand her usual glitz and wild flare with not just the influence of mid-80’s fashions but the legendary sartorial look of Las Vegas
Taking place in Germany after World War I to just before the next war, as most of us have seen in the Broadway play and movie versions of Cabaret (a story set in the fictitious “Kit Kat Klub” nightclub in Berlin) plenty of sexy tropes and provocative images and a certain sexual freedom was felt at the time pre-Hitler. The Erotic Heritage Museum is celebrating the Weimar Era’s freedoms, costuming, and people, in their new Voluptuous Panic: The Erotic World of Weimar Berlin Exhibit.
As the final judging night nears, WOW is making us feel better and better about once again getting our latex designs into their competition…and being picked for the finals. Sure, we go on a bit about the New Zealand-based World of WearableArt Competition and show, but there really is nothing like it anywhere, and we are so proud to be part of WOW once again.
Not that he ever sported latex in his costume, but Chewbacca’s bandolier was certainly a fantasy cosplayer lover’s dream accessory. Peter Mayhew, the man behind the wookie of Star Wars fame, died this week at the age of 74 and we’d like to celebrate him here.
Halima Aden has been involved in a lot of firsts. In 2016 the Somali-American model was the first woman to compete in the Miss Minnesota competition wearing both a hijab and a burkini, and she was also the first person to wear a hijab on the cover of Allure magazine. In Sports Illustrated she wears two custom burkinis.
Whatever Taylor Swift may or may not be after in this lush costume romp, ME! certainly is a stunning visual achievement.
the haute couture the stars of Avengers: Endgame wore at the movie’s premiere at the Los Angeles Convention Center this week demanded such notice, print and online news outlets were rushing to show off all the star wardrobes.
But for the brides, and grooms out there who certainly are hoping for an alternative (yes, there’s that word again) Dawnamatrix, and quite a few others, are happy to present a few non-traditional options.
With less than a month to the “Oscars of Fashion,” fashionistas and fans are certainly wondering over what they may see at this year’s Met Gala, with its theme this year, Camp: Notes on Fashion.
This last idea, how alternative fashion can impact the global sphere, is very much at the heart of the World of WearableArt competition we have been involved with and have won at in the past two years. This year marks our third entry into the competition, and just this week we learned that we passed the pre-selection round and our entry, in the avant-garde category, is on its way to New Zealand for the next round of judging
As we well know, one person’s risqué is another person’s every day latex couture. Calling one thing ‘sexy’ or even ‘alternative’ is undoubtedly an eye-of-the-beholder distinction, but one might say that the brand new Jennifer Lopez video for her song “Medicine,” is rather damn hot…and reveals an amazing array of wild costumes.
However much we are blown away by the intrigue, melee, and magic. Whatever this last season of George R.R. Martin’s classic treats us to. We shan’t soon forget the show or moments like this fashionable high-end premier from the other night.
What the net has been buzzing about this past week is the array of outfits J.Lo has been seen in, while walking from her trailer to the streets NYC while filming her new movie Hustlers.
Latex, leather and just about everything else you can think of has been seen, in some form, as part of the costumes worn during the full run of the Star Wars franchise. As fans await the last in the nine-movie arc, STAR WARS EPISODE IX, merchandise, poster art and character break-downs were leaked this week.
C4’s existence was announced last week at the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo (C2E2), and the actual publishing of the first issue is to be timed with Comic-Con International’s 50th Anniversary.
“Latex slips into mainstream haute couture at Paris Fashion week.” How’s that for a headline? But it’s true. Last time we wrote about Louis Vuitton and the Michael Jackson controversy, sad as that all is. But his time we have something much more positive to report from Paris.
The famous French design house has pulled all of their Michael Jackson-theme couture from their 2019 summer menswear collection after the recent airing of and the backlash from the H.B.O. Documentary Leaving Neverland.
Warner Brothers Studios has ‘upped the ante’ on their game recently in what they are showing to the public of their costume collection, allowing the public into view both an Aquaman/Wonder Woman DC collection as well as displaying wardrobe pieces from Crazy Rich Asians and the Lady Gaga/Bradley Cooper A Star Is Born.
Here at Dawnamatrix, we’d pretty much do anything for the amazingly supportive and creative cadre of WOW folks. Placement in MiNDFOOD is just another of the amazing benefits we have seen in our relationship with WOW.
And over the years there have been some truly amazing, weird and wonderful pieces we have all seen, worn and considered. But one wonders how much influence on what we wear the new Jacquemus bags can have?
Two weeks ago Girl Scout Charlotte Holmberg took her Samoas cookie selling to a ‘superhero’ extreme dream (selling thousands of boxes of them by the way) when she put a picture of a shirtless Aquaman Jason Momoa, on the side of her cookie box.
It’s been quite some time since we had a good Kim-Kardashian-out-and-about-in-a-hot-latex-outfit story. But give her time, and the super famous reality star always comes through for those of us who are her fans, lovers of latex or both.
That latex outfit? Rachel Weisz wore a red latex Givenchy, and the Twitterverse went wild referencing his look with her sexy turn in her film Disobedience. Does art imitate life or the other way around?
Showcasing designers from different disciplines, working with a wide range of materials, Fashion Art’s ethos is very much like that of WOW’s in that they look to showcase “fashion as more than just clothing but as living wearable art.”
Latex designers, haute couture fashionistas, casual fans or even someone who cares not a whit about fashion can’t help but recognize the importance of Karl Lagerfeld. A fashion maverick as much as a celebrity, there is no denying the man’s impact on modern culture, not just fashion. This true icon just died in Paris at the age of 85, and we celebrate him here.
The point is, there is a lot of latex wardrobe in this video of domestic ‘bliss,’ we even get a life-size Teddy Bear thrown into the mix. It’s all purely delightful wackiness and great to look at.
All good things do indeed come to those who wait where latex couture and alternate wardrobe is concerned. This past Sunday the 2019 Grammys finally gave us what we have been hoping for in a prominent entertainment industry award show, lots of exciting wardrobe designs and wild textile art to salivate over.
