Celebrating Memorial Day With Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty

Although we have caught her sporting sporting gear or latex-like couture from Alexander Vauthier for a trip to the Grammies, who would have thought we’d be lucky enough to catch Rihanna in so much lingerie? At the beginning of this month the singer ‘dropped’ her new Savage x Fety line and it includes 90 pieces of lingerie, sleepwear, and accessories, as well as four core collections.

2018 Billboard Music Awards: Fashion, Inside and Out

Whether walking the red carpet or performing sadly we must report that there was very little, if any at all, latex couture seen at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards held last Sunday. Hailing from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas this year, and seeing as this was a culture pop event we had hope that a celeb or two might lean towards wearing a catsuit or some other wardrobe piece we could consider in our wheel house. But alas they kept to haute couture designers, free of any truly unusual textiles, in what they wore coming in to the show and even when on stage.

Exploring every’thing’ at the Museum der Dinge

Especially for us lovers of a particular type of textile art, we are in tune that there is rich and beautiful eroticism in the world around us. Championing this cause is a current museum exhibition in Germany, at Berlin’s Museum der Dinge, called “The Eroticism Of Things” (Erotik der Dinge).

Tripping Over Cannes 2018

At the 71st Cannes Film Festival-though there has not been so much as even a latex bustier seen in the South of France film festival this year so far-shoes have become so important in what they cause to happen as what one can say when not wearing them.

Chun-Li and Barbie Tingz Up The Ante

As unafraid to show herself off as to make full use of textile art in all its various splendor, Minaj is definitely one of the leaders in this particular pop arena. Watching “Barbie Tingz” and “Chun Li,” we know we are getting a high-water mark of video costume design that is pretty much the cutting edge of what is out there and, most importantly, what’s coming.

Céline & Deadpool, The Perfect Match

Not that it comes as any surprise that Ryan Reynolds is once again pulling out all the stops as Deadpool, but in the video here you see his sardonic superhero managing some pirouettes and even a grand jetés on stage with Céline. What makes the scene even better as the strings swell (and appear also on stage with the pair) is that Deadpool is prancing about in stilettos. How Céline stays serious is anybody’s guess. Talk about cosplay accessorizing, this is like watching Flashdance on steroids.

Taste The Sweetness Of Sugared Kiss

Expert erotic photographer Ashley Fontenot and famous fetish model Emily Marilyn have teamed up to reveal their specific take on latex fashion, alternative fashion photography and the overall world-class beauty of women in “Sugared Kiss.” Presenting this new “photography magazine of women, by women,” we asked Ashley specifically about the whys and wherefores of “trying to put together readers of Playboy, Skin Two, Vogue and Photo magazines in the same room and have them not judge each other,” as she says that her and Emily imagine they are doing with Sugared Kiss.

Changes Come To The Fetishistas

The Fetishistas is one such online portal, a magazine delivered via email, a site that changes monthly, full-to-bursting with the latest we all are so interested in but don’t all have the time to try and find piecemeal. The wonderful Tony Mitchell brings everything together with his specific panache and just this month he has announced a redesign of his site’s home page and cover, plus the addition of an “Editor’s View” and “Editor’s Pick” section.

Latex and Punk Lead “How To Talk To Girls At Parties”

Based on a short story by top fantasist Neil Gaiman, directed by John Cameron Mitchell, the man behind the iconic “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” How To Talk To Girls At Parties premiered at Cannes this year. Its release date has yet to be determined, but you can watch the trailer above and get as excited about the movie as we are.

Dawnamatrix In The MAC Nicopanda Launch in NYC

. The recent event for the lady’s line was for the launch of the company’s brand new cosmetics, MAC Nicopanda. As you can see from the pictures here, we provided the latex leggings model Jazzelle Zanaughtti was wearing for her appearance. Matching one of our best selling latex accessories with her silver skirt, big sweatshirt and heavy heeled shoes, makes for a modern street fashion look we could never have imagined, but were certainly blown away by when we first saw it.

Heavy Rubber Relaunches

Of course there are lots of designers featured in H.R. (the models have to wear somebody’s wardrobe, right?), and we are thrilled to be in such illustrious company with alt. couture makers from throughout the world. As with Marquis, what you get in Heavy Rubber is a presentation of the very best talent-models, designers, photographers, visual artists and writers-from around the world.

Interview in City Arts

I never know what someone will think when they step into the nuts-and-bolts of our manufacturing. It certainly isn’t as glamorous as one of my wardrobe pieces being featured in a Katy Perry video or on a model posing in the latest issue of Vogue. That ‘end result’ is something I do enjoy witnessing of course, even being congratulated over ( I won’t lie, I like the affirmation as much as anyone.) But the day-to-day work isn’t sexy by any means, although it is rewarding in a way I can’t readily articulate. But Amanda and City Arts reported on what we do in such a special way

The Tech++Fashion Show

Come this April 26th, we are presenting a Dawnamatrix fashions at the Tech++ Fashion Show being held at the Seattle at University of Washington Intellectual House. At that show we will also be showcasing the Acrylic Amour collection.

Opium Ink: Porcelain Doll

Latex couture and sexy striking music videos, has there ever been a better marriage? Here is a still and the link to the video “Porcelain Doll,” by the band Opium Ink that just dropped this week. In the video you will see our black latex Cropped Top, Basic Leggins and Classic Hood that we contributed to the production.

Invisibility, Anyone?

But what about courting the idea of invisibility with our wardrobe? Exploring that age-old science fiction/fantasy trope of throwing on a piece of clothing, flipping a switch or getting under J.K. Rowling’s “Invisibility Cloak,” stepping unseen throughout day. It seems Engineers at the University of California, Irvine quite possibly have cracked the code on invisibility material.

Happy Holidays and Couture Costume Updates with Jesus Christ Superstar Live!

Starring John Legend in the title role, Sara Bareilles as Mary Magdalene and rock legend Alice Cooper as King Herod, the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice 1970 rock opera is being updated particularly by Paul Tazewell’s costume designs. This is the man who won a Tony for Hamilton just recently.

Grace Jones Hits Us With Her Bloodlight and Bami

Arguably, Grace Jones wearing a latex costume or two or some other alt. fashion accessory is probably the least provocative thing the actress, singer, performance artist, fashion icon, model has managed during her career. The trailer for Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami, a new documentary film about Miss Jones’ life and career was just released this week.

Israel Adesanya Wears a Flower

MMA fighter Israel Adesanya, certainly a walking/talking/fighting example of culturally accepted macho-ness, is featured in the new campaign for Karen Walker’s “Monumental” line. In advertisements for Walker’s glasses, Adesanya wears a bunch of different styles (some of a more feminine stripe) with and without a shirt; a flower tucked behind his ear in every shot.

Dawnamatrix & Shady Bitch Eyewear

Forever championing the empowerment of women (and men too) Dawnmatrix has always been about expressing one’s self through our textile art. Be it transforming, costume play or imbuing the wearer with the confidence to step out feeling as sexy as they ever can, we agree with Shawntil’s’ take on wearer (women with sunglasses in her case) as warrior.

Trending Wedding Couture

ut with March 1st now officially delineated as National Wedding Planning Day and Lyst (tracking over 10 million searches from 70 million brides in 2017) and Etsy (their expert Dayna Isom Johnson making the startling, and it seems the correct prediction that jumpsuits would be the newest wedding trend) releasing their wedding fashion trends for the year, we thought it might be time to weigh in about nuptial wardrobe for 2018.

OTR II Is Coming

Beyoncé and JAY-Z just announced the dates for their On The Run 11 tour. This set of concerts will take the pair through stadiums, beginning in the UK, then running through Europe and swinging by romp through North America, starting July 25th. The husband-and-wife musical juggernaut last toured together in 2014 for the first “On the Run” tour.

Dawnamatrix Rising

In an interview by Abby Luschei, in a piece called “The Rising Of Dawn”, I give forth on all I can about the specific sexy haute couture I make and how I first came to make it. We as much cover how one can spice up their wardrobe, tackle the concept of what fetish fashion is and get into my studying kimono fashions when I lived and taught in Japan. Being a Seattle-based magazine, Abby also got my take on living and working here in the great Northwest of the U.S.

Things Get Slightly ‘Alternative’ During Fashion Month

Be it a latex skirt, a rubber mask, any kind of chainmail accessory, you know we are all about pushing boundaries of fashion and style. But as we have reported on plenty, one doesn’t usually find such way-out attempts during the haute couture of worldwide Fashion Month. A quick check though of what was just revealed recently in Milan, New York and London did actually surprise us.

Kim Kardashian’s Controversial Vogue India Cover

Being a huge proponent of the various Vogue magazines around the world, as well as seeing quite a bit of our latex couture featured on models in those magazines, when a story about Vogue appears across the web we certainly take a gander. This week there was quite the controversy brewing over Kim Kardashian and Vogue India.

A Rebel’s Jacket Pulls Down Half A Million?

Besieged by superhero movies, we are all well aware of latex couture, PVC, rubber, and leather being the basis of our most recent movie costuming. But there has been styles/wardrobes/make-up and even everyday items worn in Hollywood movies that become iconic above and beyond the possible ‘interesting’ material they are made from. James Dean’s cherry-red windbreaker from Rebel Without a Cause is one such famous movie wardrobe piece. That jacket comes up for action this week.

Diana Sirokia Challenges Calvin Klein & The Kardashians

Whether someone takes inspiration for an outfit they create from a piece of Dawnamatrix latex couture or a bunch of models recreate a famous fashion add, in any instance, “imitation is still the sincerest form of flattery.” In alternate fashion as well as across the mainstream world, we have all seen an idea, a specific color or cut, even a cosplay trend become so popular in such a short period of time it spreads like wildfire and is imitated seeming to infinity.

Kate Middleton, the BAFTA Awards and the color of our times

Whether it’s wearing all black or adorned with a white rose-although, much to our chagrin, no seeming latex couture ever involved-the color of dresses seem to be of utmost importance when it comes to actresses standing in sartorial solidarity with #MeToo and “Time’s Up.” But at the just passed BAFTA Awards, none other the Kate Middleton did not adhere to the all-black dress code.

Darkness Descends For New York Fashion Week

A mere decade ago we wouldn’t be talking ‘sets,’ the influence of non-broadcast T.V. on fashion or even the fact that so many of the shows during New York Fashion Week happen at so many ‘off-site’ locations. But things for Calvin Klein, Coach and pretty much everybody else has changed so much in the hate couture world (it’s even a wonder we are still actually having a New York Fashion week considering sponsor problems in the past few years).

Dawnamatrix Presents The Acrylic Amour Collection

Available exclusively on Dawnamatrix.com, we’re proud to announce the new Acrylic Amour Collection, modern acrylic and stainless steel designs to perfectly accessorize latex clothing. I happen to be collaborating with AAC designer Snow Winters on an upcoming project for WOW and are featuring her unique jewelry (the first time for Dawnamatrix) in our catalogue.

Black Panther’s Wakanda and The Costuming It Influenced

As Wonder Woman did for feminism in comics, it looks like Black Panther may do for people of color in the Marvel universe and the concept of retaining one’s culture across the world stage. And all of it enhanced by a costume designer’s attention to the detail of rich tradition and culture.

Charles Guyette comin’ round again

The time is always right for us to appreciate anyone who contributed to the culture in such a unique, and shall we say, fashionable way. Surely what was considered fetish wardrobe way back when isn’t any longer and these days stylists as well as photographers are getting their due. But to be working in such specific costuming in the 40’s and 50’s, when one could get arrested (Guyette did indeed get arrested) for publishing photographs of women in these specific clothes, is a story all its own…and one that Seves tells, once again, in the 2nd edition of his book.

Rihanna 4 Times The Grammy’s

We experienced quite the intake of clutched breath as Rihanna walked up on the Grammy’s stage with Kendrick Lamar, seemingly draped in a plum-colored latex outfit. On closer inspection (and reading about her wardrobe today post the show) we are all coming to learn that the superstar singer was sporting a patent-leather trench coat, gloves and floppy boots created by Alexandre Vauthier Haute Couture.

The Amazing World-Wide Phenomena Of Reese Witherspoon’s Disappearing Leg

It seems the latest issue of Vanity Fair has fashionistas, fans and eagle-eyed spotters truly excited. The cover of the magazine’s 2018 Hollywood issue features a group of big time movie-dom movers and shakers. Harrison Ford, Gal Gadot, Robert De Niro, Tom Hanks, to name just a few, are posed with Reese Witherspoon cuddling up next to Oprah Winfrey…and there-in lies the trouble. By optical illusion that quite often happens in even the most elite haute couture photography, and this picture was shot by Annie Leibowitz’s now less, it seems that Reese Witherspoon sports three legs visible through the slit in her gown

Bella Hadid See’s Thru Us All

What was of notice to some, and certainly to us at Dawnamatrix given our penchant for (and selling of) such accessories, were the masks models were wearing down the runway. Stephen Jones created stunning seeming face extensions for models wearing Maria Grazia Chiuri designs. Certainly the masks were perfect for this type of gathering and in some circles, people were talking about them as much as they were Bella Hadid’s display.

Moschino’s Latex Runway High Fashion

God knows, Marvel superhero films of late have certainly given us all a thrill, if one indulges in cosplay or not. All the while we waited with baited breath when latex wardrobe would be considered in the main moda world, and then just this week we caught sight of video from a Moschino show. Low and behold, there was our most beloved material on models strutting down the runway.
