For the 3rd year-in-a-row, a Dawnamatrix latex design has won at The World of Wearable Art. The award show/startling global fashion event was held last night in New Zealand, and we are honored and humbled to receive the Overall International Design Award, International Design Award: Americas and Avant-garde Section Third. Surely, the just-passed Fashion Weeks, the Emmy Awards, regular reality-star Instagram posts give us plenty of wardrobe fodder to comment on or expose, and this past week was no exception. Even Margaret Atwood weighed in.
Although we all certainly love or latex couture, one might not miss seeing our most favorite material in all that Rihanna gives us with her new Savage x Fenty collection. At the recent New York Fashion Week, Rihanna presented a dance-led show for her fashion line at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn.
New Zealand’s The Big Idea, a self-described “home for creatives,” features a wonderful picture of our latex couture on their online hub this week, in their great big story on Andy Packer, The World Of Wearable Art Award show director.
It came down to great cosplay (latex and otherwise), attendees enjoying a deep nerd groove and al of us checking out such cool stuff from the world of fantasy and science fiction: DragonCon 2019.
One could argue that the couture celebrities wear at the various Fashion Weeks— latex accessorizing, leather or maybe even rubber outfits, ‘street’ styles, etc.—garner as much notice as the couture being seen on runway presentations. Sure, this is to be expected in our hyper-celebrity culture
Although more in the mainstream fashion world than the alternate couture one, famed photographer Peter Lindbergh, who died this week, captured all there was of clothes, the people who wore them, and even the times more than most of his contemporaries.
Taylor Swift came in a colorful and diamond jeweled Versace blazer and black Christian knee-high boots, Halsey managed to sneak in a black waist cincher in the middle of her open dress. And as we have come to expect, Queen Latifah showed-off her usual wardrobe class in a sedate yet sexy Sergio Hudson orange suit.
