Latex wardrobe accessories, steampunk hats, wild wigs and spandex, spandex, spandex; welcome to Comic Con NYC 2018. Supposedly this east coast version of the famous anime/science fiction/fantasy/cosplay/comic convention sees even a bigger attendance than the original San Diego version. That accounting might very well be true with all we saw walk below Aquaman’s banner over the weekend.
We’d like to profess some acute forethought that the Kylie Jenner Interview Magazine piece would make such a splash…that we’d know it would even court controversy as we reported in our last blog. But when Interview contacted us they did not mention who we would be dressing, nor did they let us in on the concept photographer Steven Klein was planning, a homage to Hatstand, Table and Chair. But as is our want, we did manage a bit of research over the particular garments we were sending and low and behold it became apparent that we were contributing to a pop art legacy. Little did we know until we saw the pictures this week that the living doll to be used here was none other than Kylie Jenner and that the pictures would turn out as wonderful as they did…with so much of our stuff used!
In the “The Anvil or the Hammer” episode, Donal Logue’s “Detective Harvey Bullock” sauntered into the very upscale, tricked-out fetish club, “Foxglove.” It was a beautiful bar/lounge with equally beautiful people and garments, and even engraved invitations. There was a man in a diaper and mask being fed a bottle, lots of leggy dames, a stage at one end, and two distinct ‘school girls’ dressed in black mid thigh, high collar dresses who happened to pogo-like walk by the detective…wearing our tube socks! It made for a spectacular long shot of our wares.
