Some of the highlights…
MATERIAL
When our young stars get the chance it seems they will dip into some interesting materials in what they wear. Although no latex was seen this time around, Nick Jonas went ‘old school’ leather jacket cool over his printed dress shirt and black pants, while Josh Levi sported a leather jacket with gold stripes. And Katherine Langford went velvet strapless, Olivia Munn wore a velvet jumpsuit with a plunging neckline and Steven Silver donned an orange velvet suit.
COLOR
The variety of color that can be seen in a decidedly ‘younger’ awards show is always thrilling to catch. While the elegance of basic black is never out of place at this year’s MTV Awards, we had Kelsey Asbille in sheer hot pink, Eva Gutowski in a bright yellow two piece (Jasmine Sanders arrived in a bright yellow dress which appeared to be a cross between a trench coat and a wrap dress.) And Romeo Miller in his pale pink combo.
EMBELLISHMENT
In addition to color, there were lots of shimmery embellishments and metallic-like material seen on the outfits worn this night. Vanessa Morgan wore a sexy ruby red sparkly dress, Scheana Shay sported a silver skintight jumpsuit as Francia Raisa sported her own sparkly jumpsuit, with one huge frilly sleeve. Aubrey Plaza had a splash of gold sparkles across her dress and Sadie Sink a sparkly, sequined blazer paired with her denim.
STYLE
Arguably the coolest style of the night belonged to both Zendaya and Quincy Brown. Zendaya rocked a brown halter gown, with matching Christian Louboutin heels. But it was the exaggerated bubble skirt, very much like an inverted bell over the singer/actress’s waist that made for a fantastic look. And Quincy Brown’s tight suit was pretty much schizophrenic. One half of was black and while, the other featured a wild print of both jacket and pants.
