Edward Enninful Says Goodbye To British Vogue

If we are not mistaken, there seems to be some leather, maybe even some latex, seen across the 40 women posing for the new British Vogue cover. This iconic cover was created to celebrate the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Edward Enninful’s farewell.

The forty female celebrities range from Miley Cyrus to Christy Turlington, Selma Blair to Oprah Winfrey, and Jane Fonda. Ladies like Kate Moss and her daughter Lila, along with Cindy Crawford and her daughter Kaia Gerber, represent a pair of mother-daughter pairings. The one-of-a-lifetime shoot for the cover marked the largest number of women ever shot together for a Vogue cover, all the ladies gathering in New York for photographer Steven Meisel.

Getting as specific as we can from the pictures, one sees Maya Jama sporting a sexy see-through garter, stockings, and corset. While it seems Precious Lee might indeed be wearing a preciously considered black latex dress. And there is so much more. But whatever these famous fantastic women are wearing—and indeed, a wide range of colors, textiles, and styles are seen throughout—they look fantastic and make quite the startling cover.

“The end of an era,” Vogue stated when posting a pic of the cover, plus the video seen here. “After six and a half years and 153 cover stars – including the 40 legendary women who were photographed together in New York for our March 2024 issue – behold @Edward_Enninful’s 76th and final edition of @BritishVogue.”

Ghanaian-born Edward Enninful was appointed the fashion director of UK fashion mag i-D at the age of 18 and remained so until the age of thirty-eight. He then held a position as a contributing fashion editor at Vogue Italia as well as American Vogue. Enninful was also the creative fashion director at W magazine.

He was appointed editor-in-chief of British Vogue in 2017.
