The men and women who indulge their desires spending countless hours rendering costumes for comic conventions are brethren to all of us who enjoy latex fashions and fantasy wardrobe dress-ups and meet-and-greet events. You will find plenty in the Dawnamatrix shop that can either be fitted into a costume or actual costume/uniform pieces we have created certainly with costume-or cosplay-as much intended as everyday wear (look here and here). And these days any good comic convention or horror/scifi expo indeed features cosplayers, welcoming those who make it their honor-bound business to not only dress the part of a favorite character, but pretty much adopt that character’s manner and speech for the show they attend.
The upcoming Atlantic City Boardwalk Con, the first ever full service comic book convention to be held in that famous seaside resort town, will feature not only a wide range of comic book names and celebs-Marvel Entertainment, Top Cow, Michael Rooker, Phil Jimenez, Stan Lee, to name but a few-but will “celebrate” cosplayers as the convention’s CEO and founder, Michael D’Alessio promises.
“We’ll have a 50,000 square feet of cosplay space and seven gigantic screens and backgrounds for free cosplay photo ops. This is right on the convention floor,” he says.
D’Alessio adds that even those attendees not dressed in a costume can come into this cosplay area that will feature changing areas and a costume repair stations (so very important as those of us who care very diligently for out latex know). There will even be a Mr. & Miss Cosplay pageant (and where else should one hold a beauty pageant then in Atlantic City?) with actor Manu Bennett hosting.
As D’Alessio says-and something we all agree on-“We won’t care what size you are, 2-42, what color, gender you were born, if you have one limb, are in a wheelchair, if you bring your character to life, that’s all that matters.”
The Atlantic City Boardwalk Con is May14-17th in Atlantic City N.J. Get more info here.
