So, it seemed silicone and not latex was the star, in some ways, of the just passed Paris Fashion Week. As were some very interesting haute couture runway reveals.
Here’s a quick roundup of a few morsels:
XR Brands’ “Ripped Silicone Male Chest” and “Perky Pair Silicone Breasts” saw their fashion runway debut. Both of the company’s Master Series body forms were used by Dutch designer Duran Lantink for the runway walk of his “Duranimal” collection. A male model wore a tank top of a woman’s bare chest sporting prosthetic breasts; a female model walked in a full-length tee with a prosthetic muscular male chest fronting it. And although he saw plenty of criticism for using items from a sex toy company, Lantink told Women’s Wear Daily, “It’s about cosplay, it’s playing with bad taste, it’s about form. Every season, we’re trying to sort of surprise ourselves with how can we change an original piece into something that we find interesting.”
Canadian design pair Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran of Matieresfecales (translated as “Fecal Matter”) sent their models strutting in high feather plumes, with some accessorizing with the brand’s silicone “skin shoes.” These boots seemingly morph into/from the wearer’s legs, looking quite alien with a weird tail, horn heel, and an inverted cup-like plastic platform. (see above)
Vacquera had their models walk their catwalk in oversized bras for blouses, while Zomer had a model in a lampshade headpiece. Animals slipped in, with Kenzo’s couture of pastel-colored rabbits, and Undercover showcasing an oversized teddy bear-shaped jacket. And as far as inanimate objects go, designer Ellen Hodakova Larsson wore a human-sized violin suit.
Lastly, Anrealage led the show with yet another technological innovation from their creative director Kunihiko Morinaga. At their Paris show models walked wearing LED-powered clothing, displaying moving technicolor patterns.
How’s that for lighting up the City Of Lights?
