Oscar Latex? Yes!

Given all the glitz, press, and overall backslapping, we needed a week away from the Academy Awards to access what exactly we saw in celebrity couture, and even the latex that happened to make an appearance…not enough though of our favorite textile, of course. Attempting to skirt that fine line between old-world Hollywood glamour and trending styles, from the actual ceremony at L.A.’s Dolby Theatre to the infamous “afterparties,” our best and brightest made some interesting couture choices, and yes, as mentioned, there were surprising latex choices (two of them to be exact).

Here is a brief rundown of what rated highest with us…and maybe with you also.

Controversial non-nominee Barbie herself, Margot Robbie stepped across the Academy Awards red carpet in a simple Versace dress. For the Vanity Fair afterparty, she decided to forgo pants and wore a gold Thierry Mugler mid-90s corset. This ‘pant-less’ trend was probably a bit too daring for the Oscars themselves, but surely not for an after-party.

Gabrielle Union stepped out dressed by Zuhair Murad in a halter top made entirely of silver strings, which hung across her chest and stomach and gathered in backless top. Her skirt, on the other hand, hugged her from the waist down with the same silver thin pieces and some thicker sparkles down its front.

Salma Hayek dripped cool after the Oscars in a sequined Gucci long-sleeved, one-shoulder gown covered in silver sequins. While singer Anitta was in a completely see-through Fendi chain mail. And while most men were in a classic black tux, there was no missing Ryan Gosling singing “I’m Just Ken,” in a full pink suit during the show itself.

The two latex moments?

Ciara attended the 2024 Vanity Fair Oscars after-party in a see-through tan latex dress. The bra and thong she wore underneath, matched the latex dress perfectly.

And accessorizing with strapless black gown, at the actual Oscars themselves, Camila Alves McConaughey matched her classic look with a pair of black latex opera gloves.
