By some early reporting, it seems we might just see some latex couture featured at New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2026.
The granddaddy fashion roll out will soon be underway, and by all accounts, there will be at least one designer showcasing high couture latex style with modern alt. wear. As we all know, latex designs have been seen plenty across mainstream fashion runways of late; it is no surprise that the textile we tend to trend the most will be make at least one significant showing.
The question is…will there be more?
A quick history of latex in New York Fashion Week reads like a who’s who of ever popular designers. For his Fall/Winter 2022 campaign, Christian Siriano presented his “Victorian Matrix” in the proceedings by revealing models in super shiny patent leather and hyper-slick black latex looks. This neo-gothic “Matrix” movie runway moment featured supermodels Coco Rocha and Karen Elson.
For Dion Lee’s moment with his Fall/Winter 2022/2023 campaign, rubber, latex, and lace were juxtaposed across models wearing black latex aprons, sheer lace gloves, and zip corsets, with hooded dresses and latex pants.
And not to ever be outdone by what’s happening on the runway if she can help it, nine years ago Kim Kardashian wore a black latex outfit designed by Tom Ford. Surely earning lots of interest, it may have been as much the skintight latex dress as the fact that K.K. debuted silvery blonde hair for this outing.
It doesn’t much matter who is wearing whom or even where they are wearing it. For us, we just love to see New York City dripping in our favorite latex, in any way it will drip in the Big Apple. With over one hundred designers and approximately seventy shows supposedly showing this year, from established names like Conner Ives, Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein to emerging talents like Anthony Alonzi and Allina Liu debuting collections, the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) calendar will be chock full come next week.
And we will be looking for the latex.
