It’s certainly fun for us when a piece of latex wardrobe earns mass attention….even if it’s not one of ours. Beyoncé wearing her bespoke ‘nude’ latex Givenchy Haute Couture for the 2016 Met Gala, Katy Perry’s various turns, on stage and off (and even in commercials for Covergirl which we did have something to do with), the latest creative latex couture used in videos and superhero movies. These moments and more validate our love for our most favorite material. But really, we enjoy any alternative fashion moment, from those that might ‘break the net’ to those that pass by so quickly, we feel honor-bound to mention them here. The latest wardrobe-salvo-heard-round-the-net is the ‘boob shirt’ Miley Cyrus wore just last Saturday for her Saturday Night Live performance.
This SNL show was already gathering a hot head of steam because Elon Musk was hosting. But after the show and the dust settled—somewhat—with articles like this one, lots of the talk was over Miley’s ‘nipple tuxedo shirt.’ For her first music spot, the 28-year-old singer stepped out to sing Dolly Parton’s “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” (Parton being Cyrus’s godmother) in celebration of Mother’s Day. Miley wore a white shirt with a high button belt, that shirt adorned with swirly breast protuberances (kind of like white cinnamon rolls attached or Princess Lea’s hair buns turned to the side and painted white) complete with, yes, a nipple each.
Later on, Miley performed her “Without You” remix with Kid LAROI while wearing a blue faux fur jacket and then sang “Plastic Hearts” in a pink feathered dress. Her creative stage costuming did not begin and end with her breast shirt.
Yes, we’ll concede that the attention this time wasn’t on some wonderful latex mini, but surely we celebrate Miley’s ‘boob shirt’ as well as her for wearing it.
