Céline & Deadpool, The Perfect Match

Whether they are wearing a latex costume, are painted all green or sporting a cape, you have to love a superhero who can make fun of themselves. If you have yet to catch the music video for Céline Dion’s “Ashes,” from the Deadpool 2 soundtrack, you really need to click above and enjoy.

Not that it comes as any surprise that Ryan Reynolds is once again pulling out all the stops as Deadpool, but in the video here you see his sardonic superhero managing some pirouettes and even a grand jetés on stage with Céline. What makes the scene even better as the strings swell (and appear also on stage with the pair) is that Deadpool is prancing about in stilettos. How Céline stays serious is anybody’s guess. Talk about cosplay accessorizing, this is like watching Flashdance on steroids.

The video also features some truly cool shots from the upcoming movie. Julian Dennison’s mutant Russell is seen, Deadpool with his love Vanessa and a whole bunch of muscular comic book moments to make even the most amateur geek salivate. And to get Céline Dion obviously poking some fun at her own image-the grand arm gestures, more than once executing the sign of the cross, throwing her arms around in a haute couture dress with sleeves draping the ground, standing so Céline-like on a nearly empty stage in a plush empty theater-just makes things perfect.

The nutty comedy of the video is carried to a wonderful gag with Deadpool remarking to Céline at the end of the tune, “This is too good. This is Deadpool 2, not Titanic. You’re an 11. We need to get you down to a five, five and a half tops. Just phone it in.” To which the Canadian superstar diva says, motioning to her gold-plated throat, “Listen, this things only goes to eleven, so beat it Spiderman.”

Priceless stuff, really.
