Madonna Confesses Again

Madonna’s “Confessions II – The Film”, showcasing the first six songs off her new album Confessions II, (and some sure sexy latex-clad steadicam operators), premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. Ms. Madge also performed a pop-up concert in New York Times Square on June 4th. This Vogue article highlights her fashions choices with the new film/albums (dropping 7/3) and performances.
As usual, the Queen of Pop is having a great time with her various sartorial choices, as well as her music.

The Confession film (including cameos by Kate Moss, Gwendoline Christie, and Benedict Cumberbatch…to name but a few) is built around mini-videos, Madonna working through different styles for each. In many cases she has plucked from her own closet, giving sure nods to her past (as she did at Coachella this year, if you recall). In the film, directed by TORSO, Madonna wears bespoke Dolce & Gabbana, a vintage pink shrug, a satiny light-blue Dolce club dress, (match her Ray of Light album cover colors), a crystal bustier and more. In another nod back to her past, Julia Garner (cast to play Madonna in a biopic that seems to have stalled) wears a cone bra, the lingerie made famous when Madonna wore it so well on her 1990 “Blond Ambition” tour.

Near the end of the film we learn that one of those sexy cam operators is Madonna’s daughter Lourdes. She lifts her visor and all but delivers the last line of the video, as we see where the cam operators are off to for the night.

In her Times Square performance, Madonna had Grindr as a guest, and she wore a Frida Giannini-era Gucci jacket, again, harkening backward, as this was the jacket she wore on first Confessions. She paired this with a Dolce corset and truly eye-arresting silver Saint Laurent boots…again from her archive.

Old, new, vintage…it’s all Madonna and it’s all great.
