Unique designer’s renderings and haute couture collections of cotton, lace, latex, and so much more are upon us once again at New York Fashion Week. The COVID-19 hit to the industry is still being felt as some designers are taking to virtual showings as opposed to in-person appearances. But there was still lots to celebrate for those who did show in person, beyond what designers, their models, or attendees revealed.
Actress Naomi Watts was on hand with Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Afterpay, Nick Molnar, to ceremoniously “flip a light switch” at the Empire State Building to start the week off. Regarding the fashion of the moment, Watts said it was great to be out and about, but she was having some trouble getting used to wearing heels again.
One could celebrate the upcoming fall at Kate Spade’s apple orchid brunch by picking bushels of apples. Her “pop-up event” presented her limited-edition “I Love NY” collection in the Big Apple in the most unique way.
Harlem’s Fashion Row held its 14th Annual Fashion Show & Style Awards, this year’s theme “Renaissance Forever.” Featured Black-owned collections included TIER NYC, June 79, and many others. In addition, Zerina Akers won the award for Stylist of the Year.
Shuttgerstock Inc. announced their exclusive sponsorship of the “immersive installation” Experience the Times of Bill Cunningham, opening at NYC’s Seaport on Sunday, the end of Fashion Week. Cunningham, the renowned fashion photographer for The New York Times for over 40 years, has his life and times explored and championed at this new exhibit.
When bloggers report on the action this week, as they reveal what was seen down runways and in new collections, celebrity attendance, as well as the above presentations (and more), seem to be reported on as much as the wardrobe seen.
And so it goes for another NYC Fashion Week.
