Mixing what seems to be The Masked Singer with Love is Blind, viewers might not be getting any latex fashions, but they sure are getting some cosplay on Sexy Beasts.
A teaser for the reality series, premiering on Netflix July 21st, is currently playing across the streaming service and proves the dating show might just be unlike anything we’ve seen. With actor and comedian Rob Delaney hosting, contestants are ‘transformed’ through the application of intricate makeup and state-of-the-art prosthetics in the hopes “…to say goodbye to superficial dating, real-life singles sport elaborate makeup and prosthetics to put true blind-date chemistry to the test.” In the teaser clip, we are treated to men and women made up to look like a panda, demon, and other fanciful and often alien creatures.
In other words, when it comes to attraction, maybe even love, how much do looks matter?
In restaurants, bars, and even during a bowling outing, potential daters try to get to know one another dressed in their masks, wild wardrobes, makeup, and those prosthetics. A lady with a dolphin head attempts to sip a drink through a straw, a couple (in their disguises) hold hands screaming high up on a rollicking amusement ride, another date seems to take place on a skeet shoot. We also see a bunch of nice-looking, casually dressed people walking through a garden centerpiece, obviously revealing how they actually look after they are ‘picked’ from two other hopefuls.
The tail end of the trailer shows contestants riding on a horse-drawn carriage through town, with a proper English voice-over warning, “There’s interspecies relationships happening on my grounds, I won’t stand for it.” Netflix, though is ‘having it,’ having ordered two seasons based on a show of the same name that premiered on BBC Three.
With their furries and first dates, will Netflix have a winner here?
