Studs, black leather, a hint of latex, and sports cosplay; no, this isn’t your daddy’s Superbowl TikTok Tailgate performance. Then again, we’ve never before seen a TikTok Tailgate performance. And who better to start the tradition than Miley Cyrus.
Our last blog commented on what the twenty-eight-year-old “Edge Of Midnight” singer was wearing in her pre-Superbowl teaser posted clips. Yesterday we finally got the chance to get a good long look at Miley’s wardrobe choices for what could indeed be called an 80’s-influenced set.
Starting her performance, Miley wore a black and hot pink pleated cheerleader mini, matched with a crop top with “FTW” across it. Ready for game time, she also wore matching sparkle kneepads and clunky-heel boots. Miley ran through covers of NIN’s “Head Like a Hole,”” Blondie’s “Heart of Glass,” and Dolly Parton’s “Jolene.”
*Fun fact, Dolly Parton has been friends with Miley’s dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, since the 90’s and through their friendship was made Miley’s godmother.*
’80s music icon Billy Idol joined Cyrus, as did his long-time guitarist Steve Stevens, the guys looking as youthful rocking as they always have and halfway into her show Miley kept to the football-themed costuming with a change. Slipping into a sequined football jersey, complete with shoulder pads and matching high-waisted white pants, she accessorized with certainly non-field worthy black stilettos. At this juncture, Miley welcomed Joan Jett to duet on “Bad Karma” and “Bad Reputation.”
As should be expected, Jett was wearing black.
Miley also performed her songs, “Party in the USA” and “”We Can’t Stop,” among others.
Earlier in the day, Cyrus shared some photos from the soundcheck. Even her hanging around outfit was chic, sexy, and post-worthy, as she posed on a pink velvet pool table wearing black cowboy boots and denim cut-off shorts.
And to make note—as he certainly wanted us to—The Weeknd was joined on the field of Raymond James Stadium during his halftime show by a mass of backing dancers sporting bandaged faces. The striking image was the singer’s comment on “on the absurd culture of Hollywood celebrity,” he claimed.
Absurd or not, there was certainly lots to look at from our celebrities this day.
