As you may have read in this blog, The World Of WearableArt has been very good to our latex designs. We won awards in 2019, ‘18, and ’17 at the competition and they continue to support us and all the other designers who enter by showcasing our work beyond their yearly competition. We just received word that our Gemini: The Twins (which won the “Overall International Design Award, International Award: Americas Winner, and Avant Garde Section – Third”) will be featured in an exciting new exhibition World of WearableArt Up Close. The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington, New Zealand, will host this new exhibition, from 29 August – 9 October 2020.
World of WearableArt Up Close will feature more than 35 incredible works of wearable art and WOW promises a museum fashion display different from anything they’ve done before. This time they are marrying their usual artful theatrical ethos with a deeply immersive experience and visitors are sure to be amazed…yes, even wowed!
This is not the first time we have been bestowed an honor from WOW beyond their competition. In 2018 our Lady Ethereal design (an outfit we created with Snow Winters which won 3rd Place in the “Reflective Surfaces” category) was featured in an exhibit at the National WOW Museum & Nelson Classic Car Collection. And as always with WOW, they feature the winning designs from the competition in their traveling museum show for months after their competition show and the display that comes for about a month after.
Once again, WOW provides us with another opportunity to show our textile art in a wonderful setting. With the key focus for this exhibition specifically about storytelling through the wardrobe displayed, we know people we get to truly experience, not just what we do but also the many talented designers involved with WOW.
More information about the exhibition can be found here. And we will of course feature pictures from the exhibition on our Instagram account, @dawnamatrix, when the time comes.
Thank you to WOW, once again.
