We have certainly seen our share of latex costuming, wildly horrific images and incredible star turns on the various seasons of FX’s American Horror Story. American Crime Story (sharing two of AHS’s producers and both appearing on the same network) just revealed a trailer for the 2nd season of its true crime anthology series. The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story is a 10-episode look into the 1997 killing of the fashion giant by serial killer Andrew Cunanan.
For quite a while FX has been teasing with lush sexy snippets from the show, one in particular (which they called “The Pool”) showed actor Édgar Ramírez sitting back in a chair, under the swirls from a multi-colored pool while Andrew Cunanan, played by Darren Criss, jumps into and out of a pool behind him. It’s very sexy moody stuff, indeed. The blistering fast edits that inform the full, just-released trailer for the show, certainly showcases Miami in the 90’s with all its glitz, as well as a perfect recreation of the law’s hunt for Cunanan. In the case of this 2nd series, we are sure to get as much haute couture as we are true crime. American Crime Stories’ premier season turn of The People v. O. J. Simpson was praised in many quarters and earned the show various awards and nominations at the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards.
Based on Maureen Orth’s book, Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U. S. History, the ACS show, will begin airing January 17th of next year 2018. Lady Gaga, who did appear in the 5th season of American Horror Story: Hotel (another A.H.S. A.C.S. connection) was first rumored to portray Donatella Versace, but Penelope Cruz is portraying the super star fashion designer/personality/Gianni’s sister. As mentioned, Édgar Ramírez is playing the man himself, while Ricky Martin is portraying Gianni Versace’s partner, Antonio D’Amico.
