Way back when (1997 to be exact) Shania Twain got close enough to latex couture and alt. costuming with her iconic black corset, miniskirt, thigh-high boots, top hat, gloves and high-collared white shirt in her “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” video. As a homage to Robert Palmer’s “Addicted To Love” video, one might recall Shania in first top hat and long coat, with a bevy of beefy guys playing instruments behind her, then later revealing the iconic sexy corset/mini skirt look. Shania returns, albeit briefly, in some of that wardrobe in her brand new video, “Life’s About to Get Good” for the lead off single from her soon-to-be-released album, Now.
Just recently Cher sported her infamous and-oh-so-revealing mesh black catsuit, leather jacket and curly black wig from her “If I Could Turn Back Time” video live at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. We couldn’t let that performance go by, blogging about it here as we did. Twain posing in her iconic sexy mini and corset-which she still sports swimmingly at 51-certainly raises the bar on the “Life’s About to Get Good,” as she sings about her breakup with superstar producer and ex-husband ‘Mutt’ Lange.
To be sure, the other costume designs here are certainly effective, one even spectacular. Shania lies in bed in P.J. pants and white tee, until she is taken to “Corazón Curado” where she sports a rainbow-colored outfit of flowing arms and undulant material folds when walking on the equally colorful beach. An equally, colorfully-festooned hotel staff joins Shania at the video’s conclusion.
Director Mathew Cullen, responsible for clips from Katy Perry and Weezer, to name but a few, showcases the old and new, the bright and the basic, the sexy and the plain in the haute couture featured here. And featured so well on Shania Twain.
Now will be released in October.
