Latex clothes designer notwithstanding, it even took our eyes a full week to recover from the confectionery assault that was the 2015 VMAs. With Miley Cyrus hosting the MTV Video Music Awards we all expected, at the very least, some tongue wagging, but this year the ex-Hannah Montana truly went out of her way to assure us all that we forget her Disney roots.
Coming in to the Microsoft Theater Miley wore an Atelier Versace ensemble of high silver boots, a jewel ‘panty’ and suspenders…and not much else. Later on throughout the show she sported various body suits, rainbow flowered sleeves and along with a bunch of drag queens supporting her on the expletive ridden performance of ““Dooo It!” Miley’s designer BCalla managed to create outfits that so seemingly resembling Di$count Univer$e’s threads that a controversy has been brewing all week over this supposed blatant rip off.
Other notable fashion turn outs: Kim Kardashian in a mustard Balmain suit, showing off her gestating baby; FKA Twigs in a strappy open front black outfit that would get any bondage couture fan salivating, and Britney Spears looking fantastic showing lots of bust and leg in a Labourjoisie dress.
And no, it’s not just about the fashions at the VMA’s, there were musical performances as well. “The Bieb” seemingly teared-up during his “comeback” performances of “Where Are You Now?” & “What Do You Mean?” And there was a duet by Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift, as well as a pair-up between Demi Lovato and Iggy Azalea on a “Cool For The Summer” remix.
Surely controversies over one designer possibly stealing form another, “F bombs” dropped by a host, the dreaded ‘nipple slip’ occurring and who likes who spitting across Twitter feeds post and pre the VMA’s won’t amount to all that much come 2016’s VMA’s (or even much next week.) But as always, it was fun to watch our brightest and wildest flaunt equally bright and wild outfits, sing a bit and generally have a ball.
