That Transforming Power of Latex: Sukeban In WearLatex.com

The latex costumes we created for the Harajuku Stars of the Sukeban Japanese all-women wrestling group, just got a great mention on the WearLatex.com site.

We’ve rolled on over to WearLatex.com plenty over the years. It’s a site rich in latex news, industry doings and just about anything anybody needs to know about the textile that is our life’s blood. We agree that the recognition they give to Sukeban is, as they say, long overdue, and are equally as thrilled, we were mentioned in the above piece.

The WearLatex article makes mention of other designers who contributed costumes, with the overall sentiment that “beyond the technical, each outfit is above all a magnification of the woman wearing it,” and that in a practical sense, and something we were surely told, “the outfits had to stretch.” Conceptualizing each costume as we did around the characters being brought to life and their fighting styles, the troupe’s co-founder, French designer Olympia Le-Tan elaborates, that surely for each wrester, “their personalities definitely come first. They are the inspiration.”

We took our inspiration from their inspiration, if I may be so bold to spill the secret.

The wrestlers also mention transformation, in as much how they think, move, act and feel when they are wearing their costumes. Having dressed plenty of people stepping into a movie roll, a video or stage performance or just for a party, the idea of being transformed when wearing latex is something we know all too well. Really, we can think of no other material than latex that emboldens one with this particular magical feeling.

Getting to share in more posts about Sukeban, as well as complimented by a mention in WearLatex.com, and thrilled to have worked with Olympia Le-Tan and her talented ladies, we say let’s all transform as much as we like.
