We all cannot help but anticipate the action, CGI, PVC, leather, and latex costuming that might be revealed with each hint of a new superhero movie or streaming series starting production. Given this, surely, everyone has been rabidly following the news about Joker: Folie a Deux, the sequel to the Joaquin Phoenix Joker tale. When it was announced that Lady Gaga would be playing the Joker’s girlfriend, Harley Quinn and that this movie would be, in some way, a musical, pretty much the fan blog-o-sphere ignited.
This week, a host of new outlets caught pictures of Lady Gaga dressed in probably only one of her Harley Quinn outfits as she worked on location in NYC filming scenes for the new movie. In the scene, Gaga was being led by Gotham City’s finest up the steps of New York County’s Supreme Court building, surrounded by what seems to be Joker-supportive protestors. This new film, directed by Todd Phillips, the same guy who directed the first Joker movie, is set to open on 10/4/2024.
As to Gaga’s wardrobe as Harley Quinn…
In the scenes seen, this Harley Quinn wears red lipstick matching her equally bright, tight red blazer with its short sleeves meeting at the elbows. She also wears a tight dull, black-and-white diamond-corset styled top, a dark mini skirt, and see-thru black diamond-patterned tights.
With Gaga’s Quinn seeming to be more grounded in the grim aesthetics established by the first Joker film, fans are quick to point out that the two times we saw Margot Robbie in the same role, she was dressed in a more comic-book fantastic look. One might remember Robbie’s sexy scene-stealing in Suicide Squad wearing shorts, a tight tee, and fishnets and then outfitted in more ‘tactical’ wardrobe for her second shot at the character in Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).
Granted, we have only been treated to these few shots of Lady Gaga playing Harley Quinn. Still, with such a chameleon-like singer/actor playing Joker’s girlfriend this time, one has to assume we will see more than a few wardrobe changes during Gaga’s full turn as the comic villainess.
