How many of us expected to see Billie Eilish on the cover of British Vogue, wearing latex? Mastering and outfitting herself in such singular style, and with a sudden switch to blonde hair, the 19-year-old singer admits of these new ‘pin-up’ style pictures that she “…never done anything in this realm at all.” But has always been the case with Billie Eilish, whatever she wears, she wears well and precisely the way she wants to.
In this June issue of the UK version of the famous fashion magazine, Eilish, wears lingerie corsets, as well as a corset dress, a bespoke trench coat, various boots, heels and gloves, stockings and garter belts, gloves, a catsuit, and a draped skirt. Among the designers dressing her here are Alexander McQueen, Vivian Westwood, and Atsuko Kudo, to name just a few.
The modeling she manages in this latest issue of Vogue sets off quite the contrast to her laconic pose and dressed-down dress (with her snake co-star) for the video of Eilish’s latest single, “Your Power.” But if a modern-day diva can’t present a few different approaches to her haute couture or isn’t at least comfortable in how they present themselves, even if they do so drastically different from one day to the next, they could very well lose their edge.
But what it seems Eilish wants to portray most, as has always been the case for her, is body positivity. As she relates in the interview alongside these shots: “My thing is that I can do whatever I want. It’s all about what makes you feel good. If you want to get surgery, go get surgery. If you want to wear a dress that somebody thinks that you look too big wearing, f*** it – if you feel like you look good, you look good.”
Very well said indeed, Ms. Eilish.
