We came across this blog on the WearLatex blog/video site: LatexVideos.com | Is it Latex or Not: Oops I Did It Again, and it begs a good question. Even when we look around for the latest posting about this or that latex costume, couture, or cosplay, we often find ourselves managing an even deeper dive than normal to determine, as the above post asks:
Is it latex or not?
As the above piece makes clear, looking deeper at the three s’s does help to determine what exactly the textile in question is; shine, structure, and non-sewn seams make a good case for latex. Weight and movement can also help determine latex authenticity. But if you’re only viewing the piece in question from the latest Kardashian or Jenner Instagram post, it’s hard to determine these last markers. And divas dancing in their video won’t always exactly clue one in, considered present AI enchancements.
And of course, the other major determing factor is the the oft-heard refrain “Latex is always glued, not stitched.
That glued vs stitched consideration was well bandied about over Britney Spears’ music video “Oops!… I Did It Again,” and the was it/wasn’t it question of whether her iconic red catsuit was indeed latex. The criticism here has always been that since that since her catsuit was stitched, it couldn’t be latex. But that rush to judgement has been disputed aplenty.
The video’s stylist, Estee Stanley, has made the assertion, on many occasions, that the video’s costume designer, Michael Bush, created the latex catsuit overnight, at Spears’s instance. The singer had rejected a goodly amount of other costumes for the sleek and sexy latex look. She has said, also on plenty of occasions, how a gush of sweat poured off her when she finally stepped out of the outfit after a whole day of dancing.
Maybe not the most fascinating line of inquiry for people who don’t wear latex or even a casual latex wearer. But in our industry, these are the grand, great mysteries we face, along with: “Is it too hot for me to wear my latex scale leggings to my boss’s pool party?” and “Where oh where did I leave that bottle of lube?”
We can assure you: Dawnamatrix Designs’ products are latex, and although we prefer gluing, yes, we have stitched a latex outfit or two when they have been backed by fabric.
