Over a long weekend where latex costumes, PVD cosplay and all manner of home-made props reign, it’s interesting to note what makes San Diego’s Comic-Con 2026 fashion no-nos.
Sure, it makes sense that there would be mandatory security screenings, no alcohol consumption allowed, and that the private live broadcast of panels, programs, or any other official con content is prohibited (so easily facilitated, seeing as everyone is walking around with a cell phone). But there are restrictions on what people might wear, restrictions that we all might never have considered, but make perfect sense.
For instance, “Hyper-Realistic Emergency Costumes” are not allowed. Cosplayers dressing as police officers, paramedics, or first responders in a “realistic manner” (and we know skilled cosplayers could indeed make uniforms that truly appear real) is against the rules. Which, again, makes perfect sense. “Oversized Costumes and Luggage” is also a no-go at Comic-Con 2016, as should be the case. Seeing the crowds that descend on the San Diego Convention Center with “bulky outfits, rolling carts, and suitcases” could surely impede an attendee’s passage and really crowd an already crowded exhibition floor. Furthermore, a Comic-Con fan wearing a “voluminous costume” may be asked to remove it by security if it is deemed a “mobility hazard.”

As to what is happening for the interested cosplayer beyond the convention itself, we have found a few happenings the fantasy fashion faithful might take to.
Unfortunately, the Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Pawmicon happened two days ago. It was a get-together divided into three categories—Flying Solo, Dynamic Duos & Trios & More, and Fantastic Floats—where fans and friends dressed their furry family in fun cosplay and took a walk around Balboa Park. But as we write this, the Her Universe Fashion Show at the Manchester Grand Hyatt happens tonight at 6 pm. Hosted by founder and Star Wars: The Clone Wars actress Ashley Eckstein and presented by Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, this year’s show will feature a selection of designers showcasing one-of-a-kind DC-inspired creations as they compete for a $2,000 cash prize.
So, whether you attend Comic-Con in your best superhero outfit, some latex couture you created covering you as a creature you invented, or indeed did get to dress your pooch up for the afternoon, be safe, enjoy, and please follow the rules.
