Be it latex (which there is always too little of), high-end haute couture, millions in jewelry, or classic Hollywood ball gowns and tuxes, everyone goes crazy for the Academy Awards wardrobe scene. This year’s Oscar telecast of the 95th Academy Awards did not disappoint in this way. But this year, there was much more to style than just what the stars were wearing.
The Champagne-Colored Carpet
It seems that what was once a red-carpet attendees strutted across and were interviewed on, was replaced this year, for the first time in Oscar history, by a lighter-shade carpet. The problem, especially at these awards, was that many celebrities wore classic white, and observers complained that the ladies’ gowns simply couldn’t be seen well with no contrast against the champagne-colored carpet.
Lady Gaga Strips Down
Although she walked into the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood in a black Versace gown with a sheer bustier, Lady Gaga stripped down to a T-shirt and ripped jeans, with hardly any makeup to sing “Hold My Hand.” Wanting to sing her Academy Award-nominated song from the movie Top Gun: Maverick “raw” as she revealed to The Hollywood Reporter, the non-glam moment worked perfectly for what Gaga was singing.
Obscured By Headpiece
Singer Tems earned lots of social media criticism of her white Lever Couture gown featuring a headpiece that wrapped around her head like a mushroom cloud. Surely obscuring a section of the audience around and behind her, the 27-year-old’s “Life Me Up,” from Black Panther: Wakana Forever was, like Gaga’s tune, nominated for “Best Original Song.”
Siriano Saves The Day
Melissa McCarthy turned heads in her bespoke Christian Siriano voluminous tulle and ruffled red dress. But the dress was a remake of one Siriano revealed to the Bridesmaids star days before the awards, the original dress being ruined when a pipe burst in his studio. Siriano, whose designs were seen on plenty of other Academy Award attendees, pretty much made McCarthy’s replacement in a day.
After-Party Couture
