I truly don’t think I am ever going to get tired of saying WOW, when it comes to our latex designs making it, once again, as a finalist in the World of WearableArt Competition.
This year we collaborated with fiber artist Lana Crooks, to present The Scribe latex couture piece and we just received word from New Zealand that this outfit is up for a big award.
As you might recall, Lana and Dawnamatrix last collaborated on a piece in the 2017 WOW show, called The Messenger.
While I can’t reveal too much about the garment until WOW’s opening night, September 26th, I can reveal some facts about the upcoming show.
Ninety-one wardrobe pieces will be seen across the WOW runway this year and we were one of the designers from thirty-five countries who submitted those pieces to the 34th WOW show, themed “Dream Awake.” The judges will assess the winners across six of the usual WOW categories, the recurring three sections of Aotearoa, Avant-garde and Open, and this year’s three unique categories: Natural World, Geometric Abstraction and Crazy Curiosities of the Creature Carnival. Those judges include, WOW founder Dame Suzie Moncrieff, and Wētā Workshop creative art director Gino Acevedo.
In total there is $185,000 up for grabs in prizes.
As Sarah Nathan, Head of Competition says better than I can:
“WOW Competition entries are works of art that so often become a barometer of the world around us. In recent years many of the design narratives have been noticeably serious, reflecting the issues and mood of the time. This year, whilst there are still garments that talk to critical topics such as human acceptance, mental health, and environmental impacts, there is a very strong vision for joy, love, escapism, and even frivolity, indicating that might be just what we all need right now.”
WOW runs at Wellington’s TSB Arena from September 26 to October 13. You can grab tickets here: worldofwearableart.com
Thank you…and WOW!
