Wonder Woman, Diana Prince, born on the island of Themyscira, might not just be the best representative of latex couture. Still, her costume is iconic even if it’s not exactly made of our most-favorite textile. In the newly released Wonder Woman #15, that costume is seeing some updating, as befitting the great changes that has come to the super-powered demi-goddess mom.
Cosplayers, comic ‘geeks,’ and empowered women everywhere, take note!
Big changes have come to W.W. since the death of her soulmate Steve Trevor, and the ‘birth’ of their daughter, Elizabeth Marston Prince. And comic creators Tom King, Daniel Sampere, Tomeu Morey and Clayton Cowles have brought those changes in some sure ways. Morey and Sampere created the cover of the new book, where Wonder Woman gazes down at her foes in her usual garb, but inside the book the Amazonian’s new concerns see her debuting her first new costume since becoming a mom. Most of the beginning of the book shows Wonder Woman attending to her infant daughter, pretty much in full Diana Prince/mommy mode. We really don’t get a good view of her in full Wonder Woman-ness (and her new costume) until the book’s final panel where our main lady is revealed wearing a loose, flowing white dress. Although she is still accessorizing with her signature red-star tiara and Bracelets of Submission, the artists here have added a gold collar piece featuring a “W” insignia.
It’s worth noting the tunic dress and that necklace have led many a keen-eyed fashionista (and salivating cosplayers) to comment that Diana’s new threads might be fashioned on a traditional Greek chiton.
Additionally, Diana wears a golden arm cuff, completing the look.
Diana also appears to be sitting on a throne, making the reader instantly think of her in full ‘Queen’ status…as surely befits her. And in this issue particularly, she musters forces like that of a general, enlisting three of her Amazon sisters, plus Cheetah, to wage an attack on enemy, Sovereign.
