Trending Halloween Costumes, 2024

Be they cloth, leather and lace, PVC, full-on latex wardrobes, or a combination of any of the textiles (or none at all) this time of year lots of us start to wonder what costumes will be trending for 2024. We know almost every costume shop, cultural blog, and even high-end couture site weighs in with their predictions, and as we report every year, here is a round-up of what we found might make for the most popular choices.

Certainly, with big Hollywood mainstreaming of superhero movies, Marvel and DC characters have been very popular for years. But given that Deadpool and Wolverine, starred recently in a popular buddy movie, and Harley Quinn and Joker, whose “Joker: Folie à Deux”  just opened this week, we will probably see these characters coming to our door plenty.

Of course, good old Spider-Man, Superman, Wonder Woman, and the requisite round of X-Men are bound to be represented as well.

Big movie franchises also present well in costume dress-up. Once again, we will probably see a score of Storm Troopers, maybe more Darth Vader’s than usual with the recent passing of James Earl Jones. And with “Alien: Romulus” hitting theaters just recently, don’t be surprised if we don’t see some Ripley’s as well as a fair share of xenomorphs.

Anime will certainly give us enough Dragon Ball Z and Avatar: The Last Airbender sightings. There are bound to be some Regency-era fashions on display for the adults particularly intoBridgerton.” ‘Swifties’ will no doubt be out in force, as will be kids and adults both following Beyoncé‘s western style of late and certainly non-Harley Quinn Gagas and some Katy Perry’s.

Represented in a wide variety of characters we see always coming from the big mouse studio, past and present, this year we see lots of blogs making note of the newer “Disney Descendants,” show. With the fourth installment in the series “Descendants: The Rise of Red” having premiered over the summer, we might see plenty of Disney good guys and girls as well as their offspring walking down jack-o’-lantern-lit walkways.

And let’s not forget the “Beetlejuice” sequel, released last month. We are bound to see a spike in Beetlejuice costumes bought and worn. And Lydia’s Gothy style will most likely make a mark on trick-or-treaters this season as well.

Also expect some Olympians stopping by, and the usual vampires, witches, and ghosts. And what would a modern Halloween be without a few zombies?

No matter what costumes trend over another, at the end of the month we are sure to be amazed once or twice at what comes to our door or what we catch at a neighborhood party. No matter what the costume is made of.
