The glitz, music, red carpet, and surely the leather, lace, and even sometimes, yes latex couture at the yearly VMA’s always make for good blog posts, tweets, and many day-after critiques. Although we have seen MTV’s unique answer to the Grammy’s now through four decades, it’s those wardrobes that never disappoint, no matter who wins an award (remember the first one in 1984 where Madonna performed “Like a Virgin,” while rolling around the floor wearing a lace wedding dress, revealing her stockings and garter?)
This year we were treated to another round of startling couture (see some of it here). Unfortunately, we can’t count much of our favorite textile adorning anyone this time, but the styles were pretty sexy, sleek, and so VMA-y.
From Katy Perry (who performed a 10-song medley and accepted the Video Vanguard trophy) walking in wearing gauze two-piece, showcasing the singer’s amazing tummy and long dark tresses, Sabrina Carpenter channeling Madonna (who channeled Marilyn Monroe mostly when she wore a similar dress) in a strapless number featuring a sweetheart neckline, and Camila Cabello wearing black lace gown, choker, and veil.
The woman of the past year or so, Taylor Swift was in full tartan. Her yellow-and-black plaid consisted of a corseted bodice and high-low skirt, which she accessorized with gloves and thigh-high boots.
Paris Hilton, out and about for her just released Icon album (as we blogged about last time) came dressed in a sparkling silver beading dress with well-placed cut-outs. Cyndi Lauper wore a sharp-cut bold black-and-white suit that she offset with blue hair. Halsey showed off her red tresses dressed in a gown with a red and black leopard print. Model Alessandra Ambrosio was in a curve-hugging runched mini-dress of metallic blue and Addison Rae was in an all-white flared tulle skirt and bodice.
And, of course, Lenny Kravitz, looking so sexy, this time dressed in black leather pants, black leather jacket, and tie…and sunglasses. Really, does anybody do fashion better?
