Cosplay @ San Diego Comic-Con 2024

On the heels of her wearing fuchsia-colored latex over black full panties, silver underwire bra, and knee-high boots in an Instagram post her performance at Lithuania’s Vilnius festival, we must give Rita Ora her due. By all accounts she looks fantastic in her half-latex couture, as she surely wowed the fifty thousand strong at the show.

But really, dear sweet Rita, we have cosplay to talk about this week!

And cosplay from the granddaddy showcase of PVC, leather, and latex costuming: San Deigo Comic-Con 2024.

At this huge fandom convention just ended, held as it usually is at the end of July, the reveal of Robert Downey, Jr. playing Doctor Doom surely made the fans stand and shout. And there was no mistaking the fun people were having over all the Star Trek announcements, plus what seemed to be coming from game makers and movie studios. But from the moment you hit the convention floor, and even before when walking into the San Diego Convention Center, you can’t help but notice how many people come in costume.

Dressed as their favorite comic book, movie, anime, game, graphic novel character (or making up a wholly original one) men, women, children, and even pets engage in cosplay.

As to be expected this year there was the usual runs of Batman, Spiderman, and given how the movie about them was just released, plenty of people dressed as Deadpool and Wolverine. And with a second and more detailed trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux just released, there were also plenty of people dressed as either Harley Quinn or the Joker. Not that we’ve had a shortage of either through the past few years.

But according to this post: The Most Popular Cosplay, Ranked – StrawPoll.com there were other characters this year that beat the popularity of the stalwarts and icons. According to the run-down at StarwPoll the top cosplay picks this year included Sailor Moon, Link from Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda, and another well-known game character Naruto Uzumaki from his first-named manga and anime series.

There’ll never be an end to the surprises and wonderfulness of cosplay.
