Pamela Anderson and Aerie BATTLE AI

Dawnamatrix has surely surfed many a technological advance—new textures and colors available  for latex outfit creation, 3D printing, etc.—not to mention, all that being on the Internet has allowed us (least of all this blog). But predicting the what, how, where and when of the advancing AI infiltration into latex couture, would be a fool’s game at this point. But it does seem artificial intelligence is staking a foothold in all parts of our culture, like it or not.

Veteran celebrity/model/actress/icon Pamela Anderson and AEO’s Aerie don’t seem to like it.

Aerie’s new “100% Aerie Real” campaign and “You Can’t Prompt This,” video has Anderson leading the charge to “always keep it 100 percent real: no AI-generated bodies, no AI-generated people. Ever.”

Beginning the above campaign clip Anderson can be heard generating the image of a female model she wants to see, as one pops up on the screen. A trio of clearly robotic ladies appear as the clip progresses, until Anderson says “Make them feel real,” and the images are replaced by flesh-and-bloods ladies who then run to join Anderson on the one-room set, obviously cavorting in their humanness. Surely, there are a lot of Aerie fashions to be seen on everyone involved.

Not that they are the only fashion designer using AI, but powerhouse Gucci faced a backlash just recently when they used AI-generated images across their social media to promote the house’s appearance at Milan Fashion Week. Claiming that they were celebrating “creativity and Italian craftsmanship,” with the images clearly stamped with a “created with AI” label, still critics were quick to declare them “AI slop”, a term used for the glut often low-quality AI-generated stuff we see presently across social media.

Where this will all lead, if anywhere at all beyond just another new technology shaking the cultural snow globe for the moment, who knows? Whatever happens, we’ll certainly keep making our latex couture.
