Loro PianA Shatters A Taboo

You know how we just love latex or any other kind of alternative, even fetish fashion being displayed, honored, and exhibited in a museum setting. We have even been around for a few, showcasing our latex couture with models either walking the runway in an indoor art space or some of our wares being showcased in a museum. Italian fashion design company, Loro Piana’s first exhibition in China, soon to be unveiled at Shanghai’s Museum of Art Pudong, presents a unique experience, wherein attendees can shatter a time-honored taboo.

Titled “If You Know, You Know. Loro Piana’s Quest for Excellence,” and “One Hundred Years a Touch,” in Chinese, the exhibit opens tomorrow and stays until May 5th. The retrospective is part of the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton Italian luxury brand’s one-hundred-year celebration, and it encompasses a thousand square feet, and fifteen galleries expounding on the brand’s history and its link to China.

This also marks the first time that this particular museum is welcoming a luxury brand.

The word ‘Touch’ here is significant, and where the taboo is broken, in that, attendees to a museum exhibition are not usually allowed to touch anything on display. But at the Piana exhibit touching is allowed in lots of places. At the center of the exhibit is a textile scrim that gives the audience a preview of the show. There are fabric swatches, ten fashion silhouettes wearing a variety of fibers brought to life, and a “Cocooning” room, with its padded walls resembling the inside out of a Loro Piana jacket.

There is lots to touch as well as see here.

At the end of it all is a room where one gets to watch as clothes are actually rendered all to a rich soundscape. Guests are even given small pouches containing a sampling of a cashmere bale when they exit.

Loro Piana surely sets the stage for a most interesting museum visit and if you are interested in attending, see here for more information: Museum of Art Pudong.
