Lily Allen Takes On The Latex Mini For SNL

A statement can be made as much by the costume or song a music guest wears/performs when appearing on Saturday Night Live as much as the latex mini dress they might snuggle up into for a video and promo for the late-night show. Which is just what Lily Allen did this past week for her appearance on SNL.

Shooting both a video on Instagram as well as a promo pic (see above) the 40-year old singer was dressed in a shiny black latex dress that doubled as a coat, trimmed in white, accessorizing in sheer black tights, and equally black heels.

It would be no real stretch to wear something like our Pea Coat or Regal Jacket as a dress. Plenty latex couture can ‘double,’ in this way, be the initial piece a coat or even lingerie (as we often see with men and women both considering latex intimates). In Allen’s Instagram video, be what she wears a coat or dress, her latex couture functions fashionably as both.

In addition to the latex dress she wore for the promos, for the two actual songs she performed (the first time Allen has done so on SNL in nearly two decades) the Brit singer wore an LBD with copious cut outs as well as some sporty, but subtle lingerie. In an interesting celebrity addition to singing and styling for this night, Dakota Johnson made a surprise appearance at the tail end of Allen’s second song “Madeline.” During most of the song Johnson was lying on a bed hidden behind a screen, but during the spoken word portion of “Madeline,” Johnson revealed herself and came to stand sidle up to Allen and gave the singer a kiss.

Lily’s Allen’s lates album, West End Girl, was released on October 24th, marking a return to the pop world after seven years away.
