Despite some controversy John Davidson engendered this year, it does seem that we can still gush a bit about The Brit Awards’ latex wardrobe red carpet reveals. And given how so many latex wearers are also fans of fantasy and science fiction, who won what at this year’s VES Awards were of interest as well.
Working and living in the US, the Brit Awards are not exactly at the top of the Dawnamatrix watch list (don’t worry, we will take on Teyana Taylor’s red carpet appearance at the 57th NAACP Image Awards in our next blog). But this year, one couldn’t ignore all the latex seen at UK’s big music award event. There was English singer-songwriter Rachel Chinouriri, wearing a light blue vintage mini dress with 1950s full cups. With its steel rings holding her adjustable straps, the skintight layering of the dress to mid-thigh, had Chinouriri showing off her enviable curves perfectly. Paige Cole, known for creating prosthetics and working on hair and make up for some of the UK’s most prominent shows and movies, wore all black shiny latex to the awards; a floor-length ball gown skirt sporting a long train, a corset in the Victorian style (showing off her amazing décolleté) and opera gloves. And lastly, but surely not least-ly, model/producer/drag queen Banskie attended the awards wearing a combo latex wardrobe of black and white.

In a slightly different entertainment field but surely recognizing visual achievements any latex fan would take to, The Visual Effects Society (or VES) announced the winners of their 2026 VES Awards. Across 25 categories that included film, television, technological innovation, and more, well-known genre nominees like Avatar: Fire and Ash,to KPop Demon Hunters, to special event installations, like The Wizard of Oz at the Sphere in Las Vegas, won. The designs we all love, emulate in cosplay, and fawn and fan over were well represented.
Seen across red carpets, or fashioned into cosplay, latex couture is surely part of our popular entertainments.
