Is It All About The Jeans Lamar?

Be it the array of naughty latex wardrobe in Cardi B’s WAP video, a one-of-a-kind meat dress, Madonna in her lace and crosses, Pharrell’s hat, or Elvis’ Nudie suit, there have been as many designs as textiles that have captured the cultural imagination…as well as the news.

Now we have Kendrick Lamar and his jeans?

Notwithstanding the worry over airing the world-famous ‘dis track’ and with Samuel L. Jackson narrating, Lamar delivered his Super Bowl Halftime Show like a trooper…wearing pants that have surely made the news. While many debated whether the $1,300 pants were bootcut or bell bottoms, at the Celine site (the pants were designed by Hedi Slimane for Celine and made their debut during a Spring/Summer 2020 fashion) they are said to be “flared surf jeans in summer dazed wash.”

Adding to all the posts and speculation about these jeans, according to the UK’s Page Six the pants in question were supposed to be for Timothée Chalamet. According to Page Six’s source (and we are certainly not commenting on the veracity of this rumor pro or con) stylist Taylor McNeil, who both Chalamet and Lamar use, grabbed a lot of denim for both Lamar’s recent Grammy appearance, where he won, and this Super Bowl one. But these women’s jeans, initially meant for Chalamet, whose waist size is 29, seemed to fit Lamar fine, who sports a 33-size waist. Page Six goes on to note that Timothée Chalamet is reportedly 5-foot-10, while Lamar is five inches shorter, so the magazine says this accounts for the pant’s “copious” length when seen on Lamar the other night.

Who knows? Who cares? The jeans were quite the hit either way, as was the music.

Kendrick Lamar, the first solo rap act to ever perform a Super Bowl halftime show, is kicking off his “Grand National Tour” with SZA this April.
