Lady Gaga Causes Mayhem

Surely, we love her for her music but we also have to applaud Lady Gaga on her choice of couture, lots of it lots of the time, latex. Most recently, on the heels of the release of her new album Mayhem, the Little Monsters mother showcased some scrumptious latex costuming in her Abracadabra music video, which she then recreated on a recent Saturday Night Live performance.

But speaking of Mayhem, the lady might indeed be in trouble.

Lady Gaga just announced her Mayhem Ball, which will have her hitting arenas instead of stadiums, unlike Taylor Swift (“to control the details of the show in a way you simply can’t in stadiums,” she remarked). Hitting major cities like Las Vegas, Seattle, New York London Manchester, Stockholm, Milan, Berlin, Amsterdam, Antwerp, and Lyon, where the problem lies is in Lady Gaga’s Mayhem logo.

The Lost International LLC company filed a lawsuit at the beginning of this week against Stefani Germanotta (Lady Gaga’s real name) for nine allegations, arguably the most specific, trademark infringement. Of course, Gaga’s attorney calls the lawsuit “baseless,” and a “opportunistic and meritless abuse of the legal system.” But the Lost lawsuit claims that their Mayhem logo, (see here) is too similar to Gag’s Mayhem (see here) and that Gaga’s logo is “a nearly identical design as used by Lost on its own products.” Lost’s logo was born in 1986, the company began to use it in interstate commerce six years after and they registered the trademark “Mayhem,” in the US ten years ago. They have affixed their logo to products such as surfboards, clothing, and video across thirty countries.

How, if at all, the above legal trouble could affect Lady Gaga’s upcoming tour or anything else to do with her business, is yet to be seen. Dare we say though this could cause some sort of mayhem for all parties involved?
