Once you step past the catty dialogue, look across the fabulous outfits for a hint of latex couture (there isn’t any) and take a breath over the fact that all the same principles seem to be back; one can truly appreciate the just-dropped Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer.
Premiering in theaters May 1, we get this iconic look at the inner workings of a fashion house nearly two decades after the first Prada appeared. As mentioned, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci return to New York City’s high fashion center and Runway Magazine. Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, B.J. Novak, and Conrad Ricamora flesh out the cast this time.
The author of The Devil Wears Prada novel, Lauren Weisberger, worked as an assistant to famous Vogue magazine editor, Anna Wintour. The question that has figured foremost for the book’s/films fans is: is Streep’s ice-cold Miranda Priestly, head of all things in the film, based on iconic Vogue editor, Anna Wintour? This is a fact/rumor Weisberger has never actually confirmed or denied. Although it seems clear that Weisberger gathered her intel from an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look at high fashion magazine’s workings.
The who might be who, what is real, what fiction considerations of this film are fun to consider, but when it comes to these Prada films, you know, fans and fashionistas are surely focused on who is wearing what. During filming of the movie last October, Page Six managed this rundown of the fashions seen during the shoot. Fashion designer Patricia Field isn’t working on the sequel, although Molly Rogers, who worked on the original Prada is (she also worked on “Sex and the City”). The famous designers’ clothes and accessories seen this time around include Tom Ford, Aquazzura, Christian Louboutin and Dries Van Noten to name but a few.
Yes, the clothes seen in the above Page Six pictures, as well as in the trailer are fantastic, one and all.
But we say, bring on the latex, Miranda!
