DC’s New Duds

On the heels of all the PVC, leather, and latex one saw on cosplayers at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, as of this week we have been all treated to the ‘upgrade’ of DC comic heroes’ costumes.

Allow us some geeking out for this blog…

The continuing Absolute Power comic series saw Amanda Waller surely steal some power from the DC team with Amazos. Leaving Batman, Superman, and the rest of the company quite vulnerable, the clear choice was for the duo of Superman and Batman to render new tactical suits to upgrade their fellow heroes’ abilities in light of what just went down.

In Absolute Power #2  Wonder Woman, Batman, Flash, and Aquaman debut powerful new costumes, with some very cool accessorizing.

Batman sports purple-colored gloves that emit ultrasonics sure to best even the best of circuits. Aquaman now has ejecting glaives that can as much be ejected as reset. Flash’s costume features further armor and padding. And Wonder Woman’s suit is a mash-up of past wardrobes (although in this 2nd issue, we are as of yet unaware of what exactly her new couture can fully do).

The Absolute Power #2 book, by Mark Waid and Dan Mora, sees the uncaptured heroes setting up at Superman’s Fortress of Solitude to set their plan against Waller, Brainiac Queen, and Failsafe, and the Amazo task force.

In their new wardrobe.

Cosplayers have to be salivating over these upgrades. Be they revealed in many superhero streaming shows, blockbuster movies, games, or, in this case, a comic series, what keeps cosplay and fandom fun is all the different takes on the canons we so love. For us, every costume upgrade or change brings with it the potential of new designs to inspire what we do (yes, the fandom influence slips in all the time) and of course, our constant hope to see more latex incorporated into hero wardrobe.

Onward and upward for the Absolute Power series and what we all imagine for the future.
