Bollywood Wardrobe Costs Rise And Latex Makes The List

Here is an interesting recently published story, not from the usual source we ‘source’ from, containing a mention of a latex outfit: https://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/fashion/5-of-the-most-expensive-outfits-ever-worn-on-screen-by-bollywood-actors-10147030/

The world of Bollywood films is, admittedly, not one we are so conversant in. But we do know the movies produced by the India movie community, and the stars in them, are very popular in India and around the world. And as the above article’s subtitle mentions, there have been “…diamond-studded turbans to imported latex bodysuits” that those stars have worn on screen.

The highest price ones, the point of the article, include:

The black dress that actress Kareena Kapoor wore in Kambakkht Ishq when filming the movie’s title song.

The turban Akshay Kumar wore in the movie Singh Is Kinng. While the wearing of a turban in a Bollywood film isn’t unusual, the fact that this turban sported an actual diamond in the pagdi raised the cost of the actors’ costume to astronomical heights.

Designer Rimple Narula racked up a sky-high cost creating a wedding lehenga (a traditional ankle-length skirt) that weighed 30 kilograms, for Deepika Padukone to wear in the movie Padmaavat. Requiring three hours a day to render the traditional embroidery techniques, Mukke ka Kaam, Salma Sitara, and Gokru Dunka, historical accuracy was surely the couture order of the day here.

As was the price.

Shah Rukh Khan wore a million-dollar costume playing the superhero in Ra.One…and there were twenty such costumes! The overall wardrobe costs for this film rose to one of the most expensive costume budgets in Bollywood history.

Lastly, and where latex made the list, is when Kangana Ranaut played a mutant in Krrish 3, sporting a few bespoke latex bodysuits. Surely influenced by superhero icons like Batman and Lara Croft, the latex for Kangana was imported from the same place (France) where Angelina Jolie got her Lara Croft latex suit for Tomb Raider.

Again, with multiple costumes made, you can imagine the cost of this very specific and pricey latex.

No matter where movies are made, these costumes are getting costly.
