Art Is Fashion, Fashion Is Art: The 2025 Met Gala and UK’s Frieze

Not that we ever expect to see much latex (although the outfits can get rather alternative) we do hold out hope each year to see our favorite textile on grand display at the “Oscars of Fashion,” the Met Gala. This year’s 2025 Gala theme has been announced, some seven months before attendees will be showing up to strut across the Met’s exclusive red carpet.

The title of the 2025 exhibit is Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, with the chief inspiration taken from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. Co-chairs will be Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, and Anna Wintour.

Wintour is no surprise, as she acts as a co-chair every year. This year though, Lebron James has been named an “honorary” co-chair.

From across the pond (at least to us here in America) comes news and pics from Frieze, the globally renowned art fair happening now and through this weekend in London’s Regents Park. Called in this article “The most stylish attendees at the art show that’s better than fashion week,” like the Met Gala, Frieze attracts quite the crowd and lots of attention.

The street style watching here bests any NYC fashion week, with Frieze featuring people coming in from all over and from all walks of life, this year to enjoy artwork by seven international artists. From stars like Benedict Cumberbatch in his burnt orange wardrobe to Bianca Jagger in all black to many notable UK royalty and sports stars, to art students, this event freezes the art/fashion world for the weekend it plays…and sells expensive artwork.

As we keep seeing, there are as many high-end events, as guerilla fashion pop-ups, all mixed with corporate-run fashion weeks and galas. Add in some completely virtual fashion gatherings, it can easily be said that in the fashion world, there’s always something interesting happening.
