Yes, it is that time of year when we once again pore over the VMA’s to see if there was a lick of latex in what the attendees were wearing. Surely there’s been lots of the very best alternative fashions shown at this show (Lil’ Kim in her lavender mermaid bodysuit with shell pasties, Lady Gaga’s meat dress, Miley Cyrus, stripping out of her giant teddy bear onesie to reveal a skin‑toned latex bra and panties…thank you Miley). So, this year, we were hoping, as we always do, to see someone wearing our favorite textile.
Sad to say, there was no latex in the mix, but there were still some interesting standouts:
BLACKPINK’s Lisa, showing up solo, was dressed in a completely red, form‑fitting corseted column with sheer side panels. She accessorized by wearing a voluminous, red faux-fur coat.
Taylor Swift, making history as the VMA’s most-awarded artist ever (with a whopping 33 wins), took home three awards (one being the first-ever Inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors). She also wore a draped Grecian-inspired gown with a glittering silver skirt, matched with a sleek halter top.
Madonna, who won two awards and opened the show with Sabrina Carpenter and Charli XCX, wore a black silk blazer over a red bodysuit, with a corset-style belt.
Teyana Taylor, never one to disappoint with what she might wear, surely did herself proud this year in a sheer, embroidered black floor-length coat-gown with feather detailing at the collar, cuffs, and hem and a plunging neckline.
As for the guys…
Sombr was in his own fake fur, skunk-design coat, flared leather trousers. But for his tribute to George Michael, he hit the stage with RAYE and Teddy Swims in a black Harley‑Davidson leather jacket originally owned and customized by Michael. Michael wore this iconic jacket on his 1988 Faith Tour and in his famous Diet Coke ad.
