No, it’s not some sexy latex top or a flash of Shania Twain’s undies that landed on the sartorial-radar-of-controversy the beginning of this week. It seems Jennifer Lopez made a statement wearing an oversized hat at the Wimbledon men’s final this past Sunday. Sitting in the Royal Box at the All-England Club’s Centre Court, the actress/dancer/singer was surely spotted, with comments across the blog o’ sphere as much positive as negative about her floppy hat.
There has always been talk about Wimbledon fashion dos and don’ts (especially when it comes to what players wear, as we blogged about recently) and while hats are not prohibited in the invite-only Royal Box, it is hoped that guests will remove large ones as not to block anyone’s eyeline. The specific request per Wimbledon’s website states: “Ladies are asked not to wear hats, as they tend to obscure the vision of those seated behind them.”
Due to sky high temperatures, it seems Wimbledon eased its usual hat etiquette, even providing official fedoras to guests. And the Princess of Wales was seen wearing her own wide brimmed version during a match, which she mostly removed. But J.Lo made her statement surely…whichever way you look at it.
As latex wearers we know a thing or two about making a statement, even when maybe we aren’t even setting out to make one. From matching our latex outfit to a specific event, to the array of accessories we might add to our couture, playing off a contrast of materials, colors and texture, to even making sure our skin as well as the latex we wear is lubed well, we surely own or portray attitude wearing our most favorite textile. And this attitude, the very confidence latex wearing gives us, is one of the most seductive reasons any of us wear what we wear over and over again.
J.Lo’s statement, if that what it was, has come and gone. We will live to wear latex another day, statement or not.
