This recent article, from GigWise.com reminds readers how best to wear a latex swimsuit. While the suggestion that “The key to wearing latex successfully is knowing how to style it,” is good advice, the article also reminds the reader that there is a difference between a latex bodysuit and a latex swimsuit—another point we agree with, certainly—and that great accessories for latex pool or beach wear include “stylish sunglasses,” “statement hats” (wide brim mostly) and “elegant coverups.”
All this talk about latex suits and warm weather wear prompt us for yet another of our somewhat perennial, completely un-scientific, summertime latex wear prompts.
We say ‘somewhat perennial’ because here at Dawnamatrix we aren’t exactly sticklers for advice this or that time of year. Sure, we try to slip in a blog or two about latex wedding couture when we think the time is right. And if you are a regular reader to this space (and if you are, we thank you very much!) we do tend to go on a bit about Halloween. When it comes to summertime though, when we think it appropriate (right about now) we will occasionally give a few pointers for wearing latex in warmer weather…assuming your summer brings warmer weather.
We have attended plenty of latex conventions and fetish fashion shows in cities with warmer climates, and while the models walking runways at these events do usually have a hydration regiment when slipping in and out of all kinds of tight outfits and textiles, for the general partygoer, we do recommend always having water at hand. Drinking your favorite alcohol refreshment can actually dehydrate you. So, make sure, imbibing or not, to keep the water flowing.
Also, and this is something we have certainly go on and on about: the care you need to take with what you wear, especially in those moments where you might be sweating more than usual. Sure, after a wild party you might be tired after peeling out of your latex corset, but notice, the garment probably looks as tired as you. It needs to be attended to, and pretty much right after you take it off. We sell plenty of products for latex care (see here) and offer lots of advice on this subject in this blog.
Remember, this is summer after all…you are going to sweat, especially when wearing latex!
To reiterate: First and foremost, clean your latex. Hand washing is best, with lukewarm water and soap. Don’t pull too hard as you clean the outfit, and make sure that the soap you use is mild. Immersion in a bathtub is your best option here. But do your best. If hand washing is just not possible when you slip down those latex tights, at least turn them inside out and wipe them down with a lint-free cloth or even blot the material with a paper towel.
As you probably already know, heat, dryers, or even hanging your latex outfit in direct sunlight is a no no. Just let the garment lie flat on a soft towel or hang on a padded hanger to dry sufficiently. If a garment bag is available, well after the latex is dry, you can use this to store your outfit. And in the end, put it in a cool dark space.
Simple right? Stuff you have heard before, surely. Bares repeating? Always. We just want you to have fun in your latex and the sun. Go ahead, take a dip in that pool in your high-cut sexy latex swimsuit. Hit the roof top party some steamy July night showing yourself off as much as possible. Just be mindful that latex is a unique material and needs some care in the summer, just like you do.
