Does After-Party Oscar Couture Rate Higher?

There is no denying the mad rush of paparazzi and fans to see who is wearing what (be it some smashingly sexy latex outfit or not) to the yearly Academy Awards. And while surely last Sunday there was a lot to be seen, commented on and for some, even salivated over, we prefer to stake our sartorial claim on the after-party see-and-be-scene. From to Elton John AIDS Foundation party to Vanity Fair’s soiree, you might agree that there was certainly lots of interesting after Oscar couture that maybe even rated higher than then what was worn to the award show itself.

Hair Raising

Sorry for the pun, but the dress Lisa Rinna’s dress wore for Elton John’s get together annual was unique to say the least. The bespoke dress, designed by Christian Cowan, was a black sleek body-hugging affair…made of 11 pounds of human hair. Created with a 16-person TRESemmé team, Rinna’s dress took over150 hours to create.

No Seeming Vanity

At the Vanity Fair After Party there was some sure flesh on display. Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams wore matching mesh shirts, Heidi Klum was in an embroidered mesh yellow Chrome Hearts gown and Renate Reinsve’s Louis Vuitton top was made of mesh as well. Jeff Goldblum’s wife Emilie Livingston,  showed herself well from behind in a thong leotard and tights. And Cara Delevingne wore a Thom Browne that once again featured what is becoming a ubiquitous trompe l’oeil print. Her outfit sported a ‘nude’ male torso in red, black and white crystals. And lastly, showing as much of herself as seems possible, Rita Ora was quite exposed in her Tamara Ralph floral embroidered gown, sheer as it was from her shoulder to her hip. She accessorized with an oversized black hat with feathers.

One can say, as many blogs, broadcasts and tweets have, that the usual array of Academy Award outfits was spectacular, as they usually are. But might we throw in our vote for the after party wear being even better?
