Certain recent movies have become as much known for an actor wearing some wildly sexy outfit—latex, PVC or other—introducing a new star to the screen, catching the zeitgeist of a moment or some dialogue spoken that goes on to become iconic. One could most likely throw Jennifer’s Body onto this list. In that 2009 film (and really a perfect watch for this time of year) Megan Fox’s “Jennifer Check” is possessed by a demon, an entity that prompts Check to kill her fellow male high-school school students. Jennifer’s Body gained cult status, becoming a subversive, sexy and an oh-so-empowering statement of feminine cinema.
This week Fox, along with the film’s director Karyn Kusama appeared at a screening of Jennifer’s Body in LA at the Academy Museum. But beyond the Q&A and showing of the film it’s what Fox wore to the event last Saturday that everyone seems to be talking about.
In what could easily be called ‘Halloween-inspired’ couture, the 39-year-old actress wore a nude-colored corset with red bands and beads (as if blood was dripping from her), paired with a sheer skirt. When one could tear their eyes off Fox’s outfit, those in attendance (and now all of us) learned that a sequel to this movie is coming, with original screenwriter Diablo Cody expected to return with a new script.
This event marked a rare public appearance for Fox after giving birth to her daughter Saga Blade. In addition to speaking about Jennifer Body’s, she revealed her postpartum struggles or “brain fog” and her trouble sleeping. But we’d expect nothing less than this kind of honesty from Jennifer Fox, plus that wild sense of style, confident panache and her giving time to a film that means so much to so many.
Happy All Hallows to all, be you possessed or not.
