The 2025 Academy Museum Gala

Launched four years ago, the Academy Museum Gala raises funds for the iconic LA museum, attracting a host of A-listers who attend in their finest attire, both with and without latex. And even without our favorite textile, the scene seen this past Saturday is worth noting a week later. From ‘classic’ Hollywood couture looks to rather alternative fashion stylings, our best and brightest did indeed bring their best across the evening’s red carpet.

For an update on that classic styling, there was Zoë Kravitz wearing a brown satin Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello, floating on ruffles. And there was Zoey Deutch in her scarlet Zac Posen gown with sculpted halter.

Ladies pushing the boundaries of daring included Charli XCX in a Saint Laurent leather ball gown with a more-than-slightly-sheer front. Hailey Bieber in a Schiaparelli gown sporting a sheer “exposed” corset, pointy cone bra, and thigh-high slitted skirt. And Grace Van Patten wore an off-the-shoulder dress with a feathery hem, see-through enough to show off her G-string.

Two of the most interesting couture turns were Jenna Ortega in her long brown satin Grace Ling gown paired with a sculptural silver top metallic breastplate shaped like a leaf. It snaked around the back of her neck and down her back, hanging askew across her enough to show off some ‘sideboob.’ Then there was Rebecca Hall. In a ‘grayscale camouflage of femininity,’ illusion created by Thom Browne of a sheer tulle bodysuit sporting a trompe-l’oeil rendering of a nude female torso. Pairing this unusual bodice with a streamlined black skirt, it seemed Rebecca had painted her front.

The guys?

Jeremy Strong wore a bright red bespoke tuxedo, accessorizing with crimson sunglasses. Jeff Goldblum wore a puffer jacket over a ruffled shirt and waistcoat. And Bowen Yang wore a NB44 suit with lots and lots of silver buttons.

Whether the Academy Museum Gala has grown to rival the Oscars and Met Gala, who knows? Certainly, there were lots of great fashions to be seen at this event.
